really if it came down to it and JJ were to get a season ending injury and if Shep can't be an every down QB, I would feel more comfortable and be more optomistic about the season to see Chris Garrett lined up under center to start the season than another season of JL. Chris Garrett with a good bit of Shep thrown in for a change of pace.

if some of you are that stupid to believe a guy coming out of fuking high school is ahead of the guy that started 8 games as a fresh last season, then this thread really does need to die

JJ and RS will get the majority of the 1st team snaps. Lee maybe 10% if he's lucky.

There's not a snowball's chance in Saban's arse that RS will be starting at opening game. That won't stop rantards from bashing Miles when it doesn't happen. If JJ is hurt, JL gets the start.

Just because he doesn't "name" a starter or we don't see a depth chart doesn't mean there isn't one in his head.

I agree with this

and wasn't the 66 yarder a screen pass?

quote:

You can look at all of the stats

269 attempts... 16 int's... 6 (or was it 7 pick 6's?)

quote:

Lee has thrown longer completed passes than JJ.

this is assinine, but jordan actually had a 85 yard TD pass that was called back from a insignificant penalty.

quote:

Maybe JJ'S longest passes just were not caught.

they were caught, just not counted.

quote:

Lee had better passing stats in high school

your point is....?

quote:

just give him a chance

he had a pretty good chance.

quote:

when he gets settled down

when is a big word

quote:

he will be the best qb.

how do you know this exactly? more opinion-facts from you?

Started 8 games out of neccessity, there was no one else. Also I said that I would feel more optomistic about the season with CG under center than I would in seeing JL lined up under center, I never said that i believed that CG was ahead of JL on the depth chart.
JL has a lot of problems to work out and maybe they can be worked out, I don't know, but I do know that he wasn't making much progress over the course of last season at getting things worked out, I'm talking about very basic quarterbacking skills.

doc, it was one throw that was called back.. not plural.

now if you want to speak of throwS ..there were at least 2 poorly thrown balls into double and triple cov that JJ threw into the endzone in the last qrtr .... however those attempts tend to get overlooked in a lop sided game.

dude seriously .... I couldn't care less what the depth chart says right now.... but for you to say you would feel more comfortable with a guy that's never taken a collegiate snap over one that has 8 starts vs QUALITY teams im the SEC ..... I just can't comprehend it.

maybe its just me?

The grass always seems greener. Sometimes it is. Often, it is not.

Everyone here has their own personal favorites, mine is Lee. I think he CAN BE an incredible talent. He obviously was not ready last year, even so, he showed signs of brilliance; you all have to admit.

I've seen Sheppard throw, it's not pretty. The ONLY completions I've seen him make - in limited viewing admittedly - are to WIDE open receivers or they were just jump balls and 'I hope my guy gets it' throws. Shep is NOT our future at qb; I just don't see it.

That's my two cents, devalued to .18 cents by the economy, worth.

It's not Lee's arm. It's not Lee's heart. It's Lee's HEAD.

I keep hearing about Lee's 'flashes of brilliance'. When? Which game? What play? Don't confuse 'brillance' with executing the play well. It's the same difference between a 'gifted' student and a smart student.

Now JJ's left-handed flip to Charles Scott against GT... THAT's a 'flash of brillance'. THAT's amazing body control and, more importantly, presence of mind.

JL is a super kid with good parents. He might be an amazing QB in a lesser fb conference or division. But I just don't see it here against the SEC.

biggest concern I have about RS is his size.
dude isn't 6'1 amd he's not 190 lbs ... I've seen him in person and in pads.

I believe he will be a great player here, just not sure it'll be at the QB position .

I disagree. Lee had at least two games in which I think we won because of his brilliant performance in the second half. True, the first halves were usually pretty poor, some outrageously so, still, I think the kid will develop. That's no guarantee, just a supposition.

JJ had a MUCH better showing than Lee did last year; in what we saw of him. But I still think Lee has more qb potential, although we all know that potential unrealized is worth squat.

FWIW not the first swinging dick outside colt did anything even close to what I would refer to as "brilliant" last yr... JL and JJ included. some good throws by both YES ... some bad throws YES .

brilliance, not so much.

apparently we have a fundamental diff in what constitutes brilliance. first half was very close... 2nd not close .
