Everything he said makes perfect sense.
Translation: Washington has probably been preparing for this game all year, and probably spent more time the week prior preparing for the game, because school was out. Even with the 20 hour rule, I am sure Washington was spening a lot of "unofficial" time preparing for this game, because they did not have to worry about school. It is what it is.

This game certainly presented challenges in terms of preparation. Washington is not even in school yet, so they didn't even have to worry about the school issue.

Wanted to get Shepard in, but because we only had 45 plays on offense, the right situation never presented itself ... we didn't want to put him in in a tight game and allow the potential for a youthful mistake. Make no mistake, though, he will be a part of the offense this season
Take out Shepard and insert Jefferson and it is almost a direct quote of what he said last year.

I certainly wanted to see Shepard too, but I am totally understanding of why we didn't in this game. Even being there live, it was just never the right time to get him in.
And I totally agree not putting him into a game that is within 7 points (which it was til the third), after the debacle that was last year with our inexperienced QBs.

I am glad to read your post, confirming what I strongly beleive to be true about Les Miles. Like you say, he touched on everything and he didn't flinch. He was the same way at the Tiger Tour here in Atlanta. I can't understand why some fans didn't like from the get-go. What a contrast! What a relief! Does anyone even remotely believe down deep in their heart that a lousy coach could compile the record he has? Great guy. Great coach!

Hey Maximus you idea worked. That scroll thing really works.

I think Miles was pretty much spot on. There is one part that concerns me though
offensive line play was ok. They really jammed the box and tried to make us throw the ball, which we did in the second half. We wanted to get the run game going.
Did Washingon expose the OL? They jammed the line, and we all know Miles likes to establish the run first. Will Miles keep trying to run even though the defense is jamming the line? I think Crowton needs to let Jefferson loose soon, which will force defenses to start respecting the pass paving the way for Scott. Because everyone is going to stack the box against us to stop Scott.
Don't worry, I'll send my email to the coaches immediatley

here's my problem:
the run game never really got going.
whats he going to do in the future if the run game doesn't get going?
continue to run?

you mean like they did last year when crowton/miles went conservative?

Yep that's what I was trying to say. The running game never got going, but we kept running the same plays. I know they wanted to keep things kinda easy for Jefferson and not ask too much, but eventually...the coaches will need to just let Jefferson air it out....otherwise our running game will continue to get stuffed.

Personally I think we felt we could run over them, even if they jammed the box. And to an extent, we still did .... averaging over 5 yards per rush. To an extent, we didn't as they were able to stall our O at times in the first half and we came off looking very basic on O.
Nonetheless, I think when we play a team more on "our level" that we won't try to run it down their throats like we did against Washington.
Patience. It was only Jefferson's third start. Although I agree, this offense has amazing potential, it's not time to "turn him loose" just yet. He's still a baby, and we've still got a few more weeks to get him more settled in the role of our starting QB before we really unleash the reins and start opening up the playbook and throwing the ball downfield more often to open up the run game. It wasn't necessary in the UW game, and in that environment, could have actually come back to bite us in the arse. Patience, my fellow Tiger fans, patience.

its a good thread, unfortunately 95% of the responders are idiots, these same guys were bragging on miles before season, if we have a sucessful season, they will brag again, they are true examples of '' BandWagon '' fans

quote:It would have been helpful if at least 1/3 of what he said was even decipherable in what we understand as the English language. I read the transcript on Dandy Don, and too much of it is just jibberish and doesn't make any sense at all. He tries to make multiple points contained within one train of thought, and then gets all of the points mixed up, so it makes it sound like he is just spewing. I mean, seriously, doesn't LSU have media training for these guys?

While I use to feel that way, you should listen to the audio of this particular press conference.
Miles was as well-spoken and coherent as I've ever I'ver seen him be. It's hard to get a real feel for the context and emotion/voice level when you just read the transcript.
