Agreed. That doesn't change the fact that he still played about the same amount as Harvin.
How did you come to this conclusion? As previoulsy posted. Harvin missed all or part of SIX games b/c of injury yet still have 75 touches to Shep's 50.

As a freshman, Harvin got the ball almost equally as a RB and WR, thats where the perception he was all over the field comes from. His touches are also a little deceptive as far as indicating his role, he still lined up at WR and made opposing defenses worry about him.

Personally that was my beef with RS last year, at least put him out on the field just to keep them guessing (in those games he barely played).

edit: Granted Harvin's position was WR so I understand thats a big part of the whole thing

So....to sum up....because RS didn't get as many touches as Harvin and Scott didn't play in the Auburn game 4 years ago....Miles only plays upperclassmen no matter how talented the freshmen are....even though Miles has played and started many freshmen since he's been here.

Because just looking at total touches is a naive way of looking at it.

Harvin missed one game due to injury, not six.

Florida played in an extra game that year because of the SEC championship. In addition, Florida ran 875 plays on offense in 2006. In 2009, LSU ran 771 plays on offense.

Harvin had 70 total touches. 70/875 = 8%

Shepard had 50 total touches. 50/771 = 6.5%

Therefore, Harvin constituted 8% of Florida's 2006 offense, while Shepard constituted 6.5% of LSU's 2009 offense.

The difference is not all that great.

Insane idea, for many reasons.

1st reason, and obviously the hardest one for alot of these Ford-Nut-Riders, is that he is the 3rd best RB on the team. Even that is questionable after speaking to multiple players who feel that Ware is nipping on Ford's heals for the 3rd spot.

Ridley and Murphy are two extremely talented RBs who have had Spring games as good if not better than the game that Ford had. However, most of the Rant has a selective memory, and they have a hard time admitting the truth with Ford's nuts in their mouth.

they just dont want to believe that murphy and ridley actually beat him and seperated themselves from their chosen one

Honestly I think most of us just think hes more conservative in this regard, which can be good or bad. Its easy to say X would have had all these yards and touchdowns, but nobody knows. Shepard showed everyone how talented he was in his limited PT, so making the argument is slightly easier.

I dont agree on "Ford should start" theory however. Murphy and Ridley are experienced backs who are plenty capable and obviously better all around than him at this point. If Ford was absolutely amazing he would probably get equal work with the other 2, but hes obviously not. Nobody has any information to prove otherwise except his weight room stats.

Agreed and well stated. IMO, the Miles "doesn't play younger players" thing is way overblown (as are most things on the rant). There are plenty of things to get on Les about, but this isn't one of them. I think Les errs on the side of experience when he decides who plays and who sits. Experience trumps raw talent. I have no issue with this. If the younger player is clearly better, he will play. Otherwise, expect the experienced player to get the nod.

That said, I think we all hope Murphy has a monster year. He is well liked and hasn't had his chance to shine, yet. I think we are looking at a Murphy/Ridley rotation barring injury.

I'll buy the "Shepard was not physically ready for the SEC" argument. If he was indeed 6'1" 170lbs he surely wasnt ready. Im down to 6'1" 168lbs right now, and I guarantee I would be snapped in half by an SEC linebacker.

it's fricking actual numbers.

It's stats that ignore context.

What the frick does this have to do with anything?

Obviously, Florida 06 was a MUCH better offense than LSU 09, so it's a bigger deal to have 8% of that offense than of ours last year. If we had been a top offense last year while only sparingly using Shep, that would be different than being an abysmal offense and only sparingly using Shep.
You can't really need me to explain that, right?

He was one of the few bright spots on a terrible defense. Harvin was a bright spot amongst many many bright spots. You would think that if Meyer was the coach of a team in need of playmakers, Shep would get more than 6%, wouldn't you?
Or no, b/c to you Miles and Meyer are real similar.
