I read that as Miles would hire a coach if he were allowed to. Not sure the NCAA will allow for that. I dont think we have a slot for another coach as it is. I hope Im wrong though.

Room can be made. Bama has like 10 coaches who aren't "coaches".

All they have to do is make up another Football Administrative Assistant position and fill it.

He doesn't need a coach, what he needs is a detail oriented person who knows football, i.e. 99% of the Rant.

There isn't any limit to how many guys you can hire to be "analysts" or "director of operations". And yes, Bama has a whole department of them, including former Div I Head Coaches in there. But one big distinction is that if your not the HC or one of the 9 designated assistants, you can't recruit off campus. So no matter how big your staff is, only 9 guys can go out and see kids or work these satellite camps.

See the other responses. They aren't given the titles of coaches. That's how they get around it. Kinda like Kragthorpe with us. He's in an Admin role.

Unless you're the head coach or other nine assistants, you can not participate in games, practice, or any team activity on campus or off.

Can you imagine the thick skin this guy must have? And imagine some of the Saban tirades that he has had to endure? He's been with Saban a long time.

Serious question.....because I really don't follow this and it seems to be a new "thing".

What are satellite camps? And why should I care about them? And why should I care who coaches them? And what does all of this mean?

It gives coaches the opportunity to come into different cities and see kids who may not be able to afford a trip to that school's camp. Its helpful for smaller D1 schools.
