Isn't just winning a National Championship enough for this generation? Who cares about being the best team in the history of college football? I mean really. There's no trophy for that, just bragging rights. And then that's all based on opinion because there's really no way to score it.
I've been around since the early 60's watching LSU and having dreams of winning another National title and for me, I'm damn proud of the accomplishments over the past 10 years and could care less about who may or may not had the best team in the history of the sport.

It's funny how many times teams have been crowned the best team in history - sometimes before their conference season is over (OSU, OU, USC...yada yada).

This LSU team already has a better resume than any of those teams, and we "might" be considered for best team ever IF we run the table.

Miami 01 would cream this LSU team. That's not a knock on LSU either.

imagine playing Bama, but with an offense that we have to worry about. that would be playing 2001 Miami, 2004 USC, 2005 TExas, 2008 UF, etc

95 Nebraska when they best Florida was always my pick for best team. If LSU wins out I put them right above them.

BUT we have not played any teams with a great offense and defense yet. the teams i'm bringing up have that

And that USC team never played a team with as good of defense or special teams as we have. You can say it's a down year in the SEC, college football, whatever...fact of the matter is we are exponentially more battle tested and impressive than they were.

part of it is style. much bigger than name

Somewhat, but there's no doubt that had Bama won that game on Nov. 5 they'd be hyped to high heaven as one of the greatest right now...and their offense isn't so great either.

well i will say this. we have 2 games left to be impressive. if we blow out both opponents, we will move towards that hype. funny enough, much of this will be on JJ's ability to play well (which he has been)

Fair enough. I'm not getting into a JJ debate though.

i still think they're a bit better than Bama on O

that USC D was really, really good (esp against the run, which plays against our strengths)

How is that 2011 Bama run D? They are as dominant as I have ever seen.

and how shitty did our offense look against bama?

my point exactly

No, your point was that those two teams would run us off the field because they have such a great run D. I countered that we had played a better run D and not been run out of the stadium.

Neither opponents of the Miami or USC teams faced a team the caliber of Alabama and LSU.

I will go further and say that this years Bama and this years LSU teams could hold their own with either of these two teams.
