Texas Tech model will be copied by almost everyone with any money to throw around. Theres just not enough elite sec type talent to go around.
1- not everyone has that kind of money to throw around. Every program doesn’t have a billionaire around who is heavily invested in football. Even the ones that do don’t always have a blank check, like Memphis with the Smith family.
2- if teams follow the rules and use the clearinghouse for anything non-rev share, then they won’t be able to spend like TTU did last season. They will have $15-$22 million and that only goes so far across an entire roster if you have multiple needs.
3- players still like big conferences and the TV and big game exposure that come with them. TTU is an outlier. Indiana has done what they have with just one major player acquisition in Mendoza. And that was after they made the playoffs the previous year. A lot of the guys they have brought over in the portal were 3 and low 4 stars who they scouted well and fit their systems.
4- players who enter the portal often start with teams that recruited them, that are close to home, or both. This works well for us considering how many players from the south and the local area enter each year, as well as how many high 4 and 5 star players we recruit across the south.
It’s not like LSU struggled recruiting high-profile portal players last season. Now you have Kiffin and his staff on one side of the ball well known for elevating portal players and Baker and the defense with Delane, Halsey, and Gooden all improving their draft stock and profiles this season. There’s a lot working in LSU’s favor here.

For the most part, the age of developing talent over 3-4 years at one school is over as well.
This is wrong at the top of the sport. The top teams in the playoffs are still developing most of their lines via recruiting and their core players, as well. Most of the players leaving this programs are due to either not cracking the rotation at all after 2-3 years or their position coach or coordinator leaving.
NIL works both ways. If you pay your best rotation guys well, they stay.

Why would have anyone expect it wouldn't be?
Kelly was awful at roster management, talent evaluation, and player development. Add in portal losses and the "one and done" transfers and Kiffin is left with a total rebuild.
The nucleus of next year's team will have to be built from the transfer portal.
Kelly was more than a failure. He was a fraud and lazy bum.

Our guys are entering the portal for a reason and it’s not because they think they’ll contribute.

I don't think you understand the current state of college football. Teams like Indiana turned it around in the 2024 season on a dime. Vanderbilt turned it around quickly. So did Texas Tech. For you to make a preemptive statement like you just did tells me you simply are living in the college football world of 20 years ago.
Finally a reasonable response. Well said and without attacking the OP.
