Michigan job a step down

In an news update just now on ESPN radio, they said the "job at UM is a step down for LSU, at least according to most people, but Les Miles will talk to them about it anyway." Wow, no respect for UM but love from ESPN for LSU!

If anything, Miles will help them find a great coach to take over
Just like any of us would be for LSU

Of course it is a step down. Miles should feel somewhat obligated to restore the program

I am with you on this hat. CLM is not going and is going to assist Michigan in locating their coach for the next 10 years.

I agree 100%. With the state the Michigan program is in right now, I would say a big rebuilding effort is in the works.

Two things:
First, when Les was first asked about leaveing LSU, it would have been awesome if he had said, "You dont leave LSU to go to another program. You leave other programs to come to LSU."
That would have been bad arse.
Second, Miles is believed to want to talk to Michigan so he can say no, without saying no (whatever that means)... basically he doesnt want to disrepect them, or some bullshite.
i dunno. I like my recommendation. then they wont even come asking, which means you dont have to tell them no.

This is what probably should happen.
Economically, $4 million, with the cost of living in Baton Rouge and the reduced taxes of Louisiana, is worth much more than what Michigan can offer - particularly with the buy out.
Les should and probably will offer to assist them in getting the best coach candidate available. They probably will decline the offer, but Les is a class guy.
I can't imagine the offer that would exceed what he has now.

Yeah thats very obvious....LSU has a legitimate shot of winning next year....Michigan still has a few years to go...Miles stays because of the talent LSU...Only reason I see him going is he has nothing to prove at LSU anymore...would mean alot more for him to win a big 10 championship

I would imagine that Les doesn't view being the head coach of the winningest program in the history of college football as a step down from the LSU job.

my 2 cents....
He visits with Michigan as a courtesy for obvious love of school & program. Doesn't burn any bridges, etc. Recommends a few other coaches for them to pursue.
He stays put at LSU for several more years. Michigan hires another coach.
Michigan then comes calling a 3rd time, and Miles says yes, retiring at Michigan.

I agree that would have been bad arse but it would have been almost impossible for Les to have uttered those words in connection with Michigan. Any other school perhaps but not Michigan.
I think he stays at LSU

IMO....if he doesn't take this job with this inquiry, he will not ever get another opportunity.
I'm willing to bet he knows this as well.

I am in the construction industry and there are a bunch of high profile Michigan companies locating and/or seeking work here. The economy is terrible due to this and the auto industry's demise. This also means families are leaving, hence, recruitable athletes are in shorter numbers. There is a lot more to a school's legacy than what they've done in the past. Regardless of Rodriquez's record the writing was on the wall with Lloyd Carr's last few years.

miles must have an awesome iq to graduate in finance/economics.
he wins games b/c he oversees the chess match.
his decision will be not be understandable to 90% of the rant posters.

also, it is cold here today in louisiana, but it ain't MICHIGAN COLD!
also, i don't think he goes until carr is dead.
carr doesn't like miles and would make the move untenable.

Another reason he would leave is all the negativism our fanbase has poured on him these last few years. It is amazing that the winningest coach in the history of our program, a great recruiter, a good coach and an outstanding person would get such. Negatigers are short sighted malcontents who have no idea how bad things could get without someone the caliber of Les Miles at the reins.

Hate to break it to you but Michigan is not a step down. They're the winningest program in college football history and are one of the premier programs in the game. LSU has enjoyed recent success, more than Michigan but I'd consider Michigan on the same level if not a step above LSU. I love LSU but that's just my two cents...

I respectfully disagree. There are a number of factors Miles will consider but the opinions of a few fans will not be one of them.
