I really like Mett a lot, but this was disappointing to hear last night. Makes him comes across as an entitled pussy that he can't even compete for a starting job when he has only been in the league for one year.

Plans can change, but committing to Mariota is committing to a style that Mettenberger is not suited for.

Drew Brees, oh you spent the top pick on a QB?

27 TDs
7 INTs

13 wins
Drew left SD. Based on how you are talking he should have stay there and tried to beat Rivers out.

By drafting Mariotta number 2, the Titans are forced to start him. There really is no arguing that. You don't draft a QB that high and sit him on the bench. There is no beating him out for Mett so stop acting like he's afraid of competition. He best out several QBs last year in the roster and started as a rookie, but the Titans made it very clear he will not have a chance to play anymore. As a competitor, Mett wants to have the chance to win a starting job. He will never have that shot in TN anymore. It's pretty simple and people calling him a pussy for wanting to go somewhere where he has a shot to compete are being ridiculous

I actually completely agree with you.

I want Mett to succeed but no NFL QB worth his salt is going to run from a situation like Mett is trying to do, regardless of how shitty the team might be. Think about it. He's a late round pick and a 2nd year guy under contract who wants out because the franchise who took a chance on him drafted another QB.

If this is true... Are you kidding me? Bye, Mett. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Mulder,
Why do you feel so compelled to call Zach Mettenberger 'retarded, loser, and neanderthal?'
Is it something personal between him and you?
Do you remember Steve Young in Tampa Bay before he was traded to SF?
How about Whisenhunt's comments?

Well that makes even less sense on TN's part, then.

For God Sake, take off your purple and gold blinders. There's a reason every single person covering the draft ripped him to shreds when they announced this last night.

He is a second year guy who is not ready to be a starter. Anywhere. He should be grateful for the experience he got last year, which most 6th round guys don't get their rookie year. Let the lessons learned sink in and continue to learn. If he's good enough, he will have a chance to start in Nashville, period. To ask out is embrassing and disappointing.

I'd want a trade not because of having to compete against Mariota, but because it is clear as fricking day that the Titans have no idea how to build a franchise. Their defense is in shambles and their offensive line leaks like a sieve. Solution? A new quarterback. Obviously.

Unless they picked him because they didn't get a good enough deal at the draft for picks, like the Rams did with RGIII, and they plan on trading him for a marquee player or prospect immediately, I have a hard time understanding this move by the Titans. Even if Mett is damn near a statue in the pocket, he proved to be at least a serviceable quarterback that, if built around, can at least make the plays you need him to make.

In a draft that has one of the weakest quarterback classes in recent memory, I would have avoided grabbing a QB and gone to either find a pass rusher or someone to shore up the o-line.

Completely disagree. The worst thing about last night was Whiz's comments about week 1. As a Titans fan, I'd rather have Mariota on the bench until late in the season.

The AZ Cardinals could certainly use him.
Palmer isn't getting any younger and is very injury prone.
Our depth at QB is less than desirable.

But Coach Wiz says that they won't trade him.

they named him the starter. It's over...that's it. That loser mentality is why he isn't going to make it on any team. Kid is a loser

Would someone ban this idiot? HE HAS NO SHOT TO WIN THE JOB, how much more clear does this need to be made out to be? They have 100% stated they are moving forward with their #2 overall pick.

Have you seen the projections on next year's crop of QB's? It's awful. How long do you procrastinate on the search for a franchise QB?

There's what... 10 franchise guys in the league? Only two (Manning and Luck) were unanimous studs that everybody agreed would be awesome. The other 8? Someone trusted their scouting and took with criticism. At some point, you have trust your decision making process and take a guy and see what happens. You can't wait ten years for the next Luck or Manning to come along.

The deck is stacked against Mettenberger. It's a real shame

People are acting like Tenn. took him in the 1st round last season then moved on after 2-3 games.

HE WAS A SIXTH ROUND PICK!!! That means all 32 teams, especially those in need of a QB, passed over him multiple times before he was finally selected. In a business that is completely results oriented and a league that relies so heavily on the QB position, teams aren't apt to pass over QBs who they think could be franchise QBs. And before all of the "what about Tom Brady" idiots come in, that is the RARE exception, not the rule. For every one Tom Brady, there are 50 late round QBs that amounted to nothing in the NFL.

Mettenberger was a 6th round project that showed some flashes of potential last season. Still (though not completely his fault) he failed to lead his team to a win. TN was in a spot to take a guy rated, at worst, as the 2nd best QB in the draft and a guy with 1st round potential. It's hard to pass that up in favor of a guy (Mettenberger) that is still unproven himself.

If Tenn. is picking 5th or 6th, then this is a non-issue. However, the ultimate question for the Tenn. front office came down to:

Do we want to take a chance on a guy that many scouts think has the potential to be a great QB? Or, do we want to take a chance on a guy that had his moments, but ultimately team after team decided to bypass when they had the chance to grab him last season? It's a gamble either way. They're just going with what they think is a better bet

He was projected higher and fell because of the injury and the diluted urine sample.

Thank you. If this was a backup for the Saints, people here would be tearing him a new one. The LSU connection blinds people.

If Mett was as good as he thinks he is, the Titans wouldn't have had to draft Mariota last night. Embarrassing and disappointing because I liked his prospects under Whiz.
