This is where the fanbase - if we have one - disagrees. Woody already gave him a 7+ contract.

I'm in the thought of sunk cost - I've said it previously. Why wait 2-7/8 years when you can see the outcome on a guaranteed contract. The only thing you lose is winning and more revenue.
