You do realize these games were scheduled 4-5 years ago, often times by former AD’s and football staff ? In recent years, FSU sucked balls after Jimbo quit on the program. FSU was a dumpster fire until last year.
Season opener games to watch:
Boise @ 10 Washington - game should be competitive, difference will be UW QB Michael Penix who is a stud.
21 UNC @ S. Carolina - hated cross-State rivalry as the game could come down to which team has the ball last
Countless other games will be competitive since history has proven that David can beat Goliath during the opening week I.e. App vs. Michigan in 2007

Players have 9 months to screw up & NCAA has forever to find screw ups with the resulting outcome being suspension at the earliest allowable time. I agree with OP, always schedule a cupcake week 1.(some suspensions last longer than 1 game, but it could only help for 1 gamers)

Russell Shepard was suspended Week1 against Oregon in 2011 not to mention JJ due to other factors but still suspended week 1.
Kevin Tolliver was suspended week 1 of 2017 and ultimately led to Greedy making a name for himself but still a starting Corner was still suspended week 1.
This actually has been somewhat of an issue for LSU during multiple seasons.

Why are we making excuses that a loss to FSU really makes no difference in the season outcome? IMO, this game is a season opening playoff elimination game.

Obviously, but they're still a brand and a tougher matchup than UT Martin, East Carolina, Indiana, Middle Tennessee, Nevada, and so on.
