But he sure can show up for NERF House. It is part of the game, he needs to be there IMO

It's wild that's your takeaway from a thread discussing whether he should go to an awards show or not

Actually, the thread isn't about whether he should go or not... its about someone butt hurt that he isn't going.

I think Joe is doing just fine without me trying to fix his life.... so I'm not even trying.

sure he’s sick of being pulled in a million directions and just wants to focus on football.
And commercials.
I don’t feel sorry for him at all.
I don’t care that he’s not going, fwiw. Up to him but coming across like a douchebag (to everyone outside of LSU and Ohio) is not good for him long term.

They need to get their head out of their realize that this guy has way more important things to worry about.
So tonight at 7 pm joe will be swamped with workouts?
BS
Only guy in history not to show up.
Again, low rent

Joe's earned the right to tell them to frick off. They sound like butthurt pussies.

That is an actual responsibility he had contractually.

Nah. March is too late and too close to the draft. Why is this ceremony so late?

I believe the issue is that he hasn't even told them to frick off, he hasn't responded at all

#2 - Unless he had a really good reason, I think he should be there. If his reason is just “I’m tired of going to awards banquets” I think it’s something he might look back on 5, 10 years from now and regret having not attended.
I couldn't disagree more. He is training for pro day. Why would they have the awards ceremony so late? Burrow had a great season, he reflected on it, and now he is on to other shite. You think when he's retiring from the NFL and he's looking back on regrets he's going to wish that he'd made time for an awards ceremony that was foolishly held in between the combine and the draft?
If they wanted him to attend this thing make it during awards season.

Didn’t read all the comments and I’m sure someone already said it but how about not having your college football award ceremony in March?

There are a lot of angles here- I actually bought tickets for my family and I’m going tonight basically because I’m an LSU alum and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for my kids to see an LSU heisman award winner getting honored with the Maxwell award which he’s already received at an award ceremony on ESPN. I’m not mad but obviously highly disappointed that he’s not attending. He’s a grown man and can make his own decisions but it’s playing out as a bad look or at least the way it’s being communicated through the press. Chase Young will be there and Joe will be the first Maxwell College Player of the Year in the history of the award not to honor his commitment to attend. Let that sink in just a little bit. I wouldn’t be going tonight otherwise as I’m sure some some others there as well.
Again, I’m not mad, just disappointed as I’m sure everyone here would be that’s saying “Who cares, he can do what he wants, screw them.” Well, you have the right to your opinion and it’s all good but just remember that the next time someone stands you up or better yet, pluck down $$ for an event and the headliner bails for no given reason.
We’ll still be there tonight and my kids will have their Joe Burrow jerseys on over their suits and have their fingers crossed that he shows but either way they’ll get to see Chase Young, Lamar Jackson, John Harbaugh, and I think Coach O is still coming to get his award.

never bothered to see if Joe even wanted to go?
Read the article. His parent literally said he would attend lol.
What a worthless, idiotic rant

How much of a time commitment are we even talking?
I'm sure that the committee would fly him in that afternoon, go to the event that night, and either fly him out on a red-eye or fly him back the following morning.
You might be looking at half a day of commitment. If his time is that tight, I'm sure they could make it 8 hours or less.
It would be a good idea for burrow to get his team on this ASAP.

I guess so.
Did he have to respond to accept the award? Like when he won it were they just like "Joe Burrow has been awarded the Maxwell Trophy" and that was that or did he have to respond with a thank you letter?
Because, as pedantic as it may seem, if they just awarded him the trophy and never actually had formal contact with him, what obligation is he under here?
Posted on 3/6/20 at 10:18 am to Odysseus32
The obligation of common courtesy. "I am sorry, I cannot attend. Thank you for the honor"
I agree with everyone who says that a refusal to respond is a response itself.
The response is: "I am too self important or too busy or too lazy or too inconsiderate to bother responding to your RSVP, or to answer your subsequent follow-up calls to determine whether I will attend. I have no personal obligation to inform you of my plans, and it is not my problem if it prevents you from making appropriate plans for your banquet. I did not ask for your award."
While I am obviously inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, if the article is accurate, and that is a big if, this reflects very poorly on him

Too many awards and ceremonies. Can’t even keep up.
So really, empathize with the kid for a second.... Every minute of your time is taken and you can either do something personal, for sponsorship or accept another award and meet a bunch of additional powerful people who now think you owe them something.
On top of all that, Atlantic City is a completely different
the price of MILLIONS and being a SUPER STAR.
not all is gravy.
AND if all is true and his parents say he would attend...that is what he needs to do..
the parents have done enough for him, he needs to cover their back as well.

Being an adult and knowing that being the centerpiece of a large award show, they might need to know if you plan on attending or not. It's really not a difficult situation to understand.
