Blocking scheme coupled with terrible conservative play calling is the problem.

Call me crazy but I think mawae was a no brainer. Some other team is going to pick him up and it's going to hurt.

I want to make it know I am not saying Grimes wont be good. I just dont think, "lack of experience" should have been a reason for not hiring Mawae for Oline coach.

Did I say that??

Im sorry, but you cant step into a job like this with zero experience. It had nothing to do with whether or not I think hed be a good coach. You cant learn on the job at LSU. He could have been a GA for a couple of seasons if he really wanted to get into coaching.
What was Ken Norton Jr's experience before getting the LB job at USC under Carroll? He's now coaching in the NFL

Instead LSU went w/ a guy w/ zero NFL skins on the wall, who's managed to take a supposed team strength loaded w/ returning starters into arguably the team's biggest weakness.

No trolling here. It was a dumb move by the Miles camp to not hire Mawae. Like another poster stated it will hurt when a rival team picks him up.

I bet Florida sure is happy that they didn't take the same approach when it came to Steve Spurrier

Is Florida happy with Ron Zook. What about LSU with Curly Hallman. Or Miami with Coker.

so you pick one of the few times a non proven hire worked.

Are you referencing the 1978 Florida QB coaching gig where Florida went 4-7?

Only reason grimes was chosen was experience.

Mawae has NFL experience and is an alum who loves LSU. Miles fricked up IMO

He had 6 years of head coaching experience prior to going to Florida.

This you can blame on your Head Coach. His specialty is supposed to be OL, so if you brought in a guy who was green Miles could tudor him. Similar to Norton/Carroll.

Again, I never said Mawae would have been a bad hire, I just understand why it wasnt made.

Some similarities exist between Tepper, Malveto, and Grimes. They all came in with many returning starters at their groups and had other veteran players which had contributed to previous success. Theses groups were seen at the time to be strengths of LSU. They all went to crap quickly.

It should be more about the person and a little less about the "experience" especially when talking about an offensive line gig.

Not to mention you have to opportunity to hire someone who loves LSU and is as polished a professional as you will fine....period.

Mawae is not going anywhere either. He's highly connected to healing place church.

He's essentially locked into BR. Him as the O line coach would have been a home run. There's no way he wouldn't have been successful.

I didn't read this whole thread ,,,,,,

but here is my 2 cents

Stud was horrible and the oline has not been coached for some time. They have developed bad habits as far as technique and Grimes is struggling to get them to break those habits and coach them up.

Ultimately its Grimes responsibility to do that and there for his fault if they are under performing. I'm not sure who would have been the better hire longterm but as far as this year goes I'm not sure it would have mattered

Are you f'n serious? He's an analyst for Cox Sports. That's what he's paid to do. He said what needed to be said.

You have a short memory...
Maybe you can provide all those awful years of OL play during Studs tenure.
I can think of 1 awful squad in '09 (Crowton recruiting/attempt at zone tech) and maybe 1 middle-of-the-road squad in '12(shared time as Co-OC ,talent attrition from inj and a quitter).

He had some pretty good numbers considering the lack of balance and basically lining up telling Ds I'm gonna run it down your thoat and make you like it.
You see how well this works under the new OL coach?
