My personal favorite is Rohan, who was a great team leader.

Rohan's offense when he finished, was as strong as any LSU team I've seen. I would also probably rate H. Tyler higher than most fans. Certainly, Rohan would be above Mauck and Flynn in my book, NC's nothwithstanding.

Mauck fumbled on the one yard line against Oklahoma after Vincents run. Thought it was over, but Mauck played well enough to win. Oklahoma way better than Ohio St. IMO. But Flynn led LSU offense superbly. Both had great players around them on both sides of the ball. Rohan got flucked by not being played earlier in his career. As good as any that played QB at LSU.

And look, Mauck and Flynn overcame serious injuries, either knocking them out altogether or nagging them throughout the year. I just think the offense when Rohan left was by far the best, realizing that he had a lot of talent.

By handing off and having Oklahoma defensive backs drop his inaccurate throws or was it by willing Marcus Spears to the end zone? At least Flynn had a good game, Mauck played terribly.

i'm really glad someone started this conversation. I don't think we have had a good conversation regarding JR and MF. Maybe this thread will settle it all.

For the record, I think JR>>MF and MM as a QB, but I love them all! My favorite LSU QB of all time is still ROHAN!!!!!!!!!!

Rohan didn't have JR's abilities or the white boys's rings, but he was still my favorite.

Rohan was a great leader, but he also had Josh Reed, who could run a 10 yard route and be 15 yards open...especially against Bama

Neither could manage the game as well as JR

Neither could read defenses as well as JR

Neither had the Moxie of JR.

Neither played within themselves as JR did.

Neither were as smart as JR.

Sure, they were athletic, but they couldn't lead.

they get the respect they deserve; are you saying they don't?

they were above average quarterbacks who won championships at LSU and they get the respect and recognition that goes along with that.

Trent Dilfer doesn't get much respect either FWIW.

Let's say RP doesn't step up and win the SEC championship game, or WV doesn't lose on the final day, in your humble opinion, is MF>JR?

I love what MF/MM did while they were at LSU, would buy them drinks, or pay for a meal to show my appreciation for what they did.

Neither of these are on the same level of JR, talentwise, athletic ability, decisionmaking, accuracy, or any other measure you use to measure qbs.

How could you be better than someone you couldn't beat out for three years? Were Saban, Jimbo, and Miles all wrong? Two BCS Championship coaches and a head coach in waiting saw that
JR > MF. But yet, people get on here and consistently try to find ways to slight what JR did here and I think they are just plain wrong for doing so.

As far a pure QBs, Hodson is head and shoulders over both. They just have the hardware.

As a power passer he was, but he didn't have
what it took to get us to a N.Champioship
Like Mauck and Flynn.....both cool, calm
collected, smart and motivated to perform
higher than their abilities perhaps.

JM even having problems in the Pros and I read
he may not have what it take to play in the Pros
Go figure?

Pitt beating WVU and Oklahoma beating MIZZU on the final day of the season? You realize THAT'S what got LSU into the game in 2007, right? LSU was sitting on the edge of the NC game going into the ARKY game at home, and LOST with Flynn under center, with a Flynn interception being the final play. LSU dropped to #7 going into the SECCG, and fans were DUMPING THEIR TICKETS to the game!!! With Flynn out, Perriloux lead the team to the win over TENN, and then the unthinkable happened in thew WVU game.

Look, I hate having to continually point this shite out because I'm a huge Flynn fan. when he and JR got to campus, I made sure to bring my then 1 year old son to fan day their freshman year to get his photo taken with both and get them to sign a little mini helmet (which he still has in his room) because I believed that both would do great things while Tigers.

But, it's absolutely insane to continue to suggest that Flynn was somehow better or a better leader because HIS two loss team (whose losses were to far worse teams with one of them coming at home) was better than Russell's two loss team based on hardware alone. Mostly, because it takes revisionist history to gloss over the very real fact that without HUGE help by PITT, LSU misses out on going to the NCG as a two loss team.

I think most fans give them much respect. As you can see by the opinions in the thread, whether or not they are the best LSU QB's is another question altogether.

Also, I'm of the opinion that once you come to LSU it doesn't matter where you're from. Many posters think that J.R. is the best, or Rohan. I don't see much inherent bias with fans against players not from Louisiana.
