How in the hell did LSU let this guy get out of the state? This guy was unreal in college and the NFL..

By only recruiting him as a defensive player and not an offensive player.

None of the big schools were recruiting him as a RB. That's why he went to lowly San Diego State.

I wouldn't say they "missed" on him. He was recruited by pretty much every major program at the time. It's just they all wanted him to play DB. He played everything in high school and was a stud at every position, QB/RB/CB/WR/etc.
And you need to remember that this was in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Nebraska was a powerhouse with the Wing T. This was when those massive, power RBs were the norm. At his biggest, Faulk was 5'11 210lbs. The way football was played back then, colleges projected him as a CB.
And then the game started to evolve and change and slowly turn into what it is today.
