Miles will be ruthlessly let go. The fans will cheer, thinking they're about to hire the next Saban and ascend into college football greatness. The LSU football program will enter the cold month of December with no coach, and a #1 ranked recruiting class that will slowly dissolve as players start committing elsewhere. The inept LSU Board and Alleva will take weeks to try and find someone after Jimbo decides to stay at Florida State. It will be a bloodbath trying to find any elite coach, as Southern Cal, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Miami, and others will be ravenous in their search for the best available. The weeks will go by, and by the end of December, LSU will finally settle on a coach. It won't be a big name. It won't please the fans. People will be up in arms screaming, "We fired Miles for ______???"
By then, Miles will be long gone. December will almost be over, and there will be about 10 or so recruits still committed to LSU. The #1 class will be all but gone, and LSU will become stuck with a new coach that excites no one, but was the "best" they could get considering the circumstances. And, worst of all, they're in somewhat of a financial bind as they still owe money for the next 6+ years to Miles.
That is what's going to happen, and you can take it to the bank. Miles is a massive asset and a top coach, but unfortunately, most of you won't realize that until it's too late.
This is all likely true. Good analysis. There is probably an 80% chance of it going down this way, so we are definitely taking a gamble here.
Why anyone at LSU would believe what Jimbo Fisher's agent says is beyond me. He could be lying and just trying to get more money. At the least, Florida State is a lateral move to LSU.
Good post. I am hoping for the 20% outcome, obviously.

Congratulations!!! Well said and absolutely accurate. This is Charlie Mac all over - and the years following until Bill Arnsparger showed up then left because of lousy administration. We're about to find out who's got class and integrity. We know Coach Miles does; the question is whether anyone else does.

SOVIET BEAR---I COMPLETELY AGREE. ALL THESE BANDWAGON RANTERS WHO THINK THEY KNOW FOOTBALL DON'T REALIZE THE BAD TIMING THIS IS. UNLESS WE HAVE A BIG TIME COACH ALREADY IN THE POCKET THEN I DON'T THINK THIS WILL WORK.

I agree. Keep Miles and let him finish the job. This team will win. Most of these people on here knows nothing about football and only are bandwagon fans. Some weren't even born during the dark days during 90's and won't be happy until they can experience it for themselves. LSU financial situation is not good and it has been the athletics side that has his given money to the academic side. Coach Miles has done an outstanding job for LSU during his tenure at LSU and I really hope has a chance to coach this team next year. I would really love to see this team excel and win a championship so all these people calling for him to fired can eat crow. I remember reading an article that the AD wrote a few years back where he said it's not about winning championships but competing for them. Well if Miles gets fired then the AD needs to follow because his idea of success is not the same as the fans. This is the time to support the players, coaches and university when things are a little down but instead we have some kicking them while they are down.

This has got to be a record for downvotes on a first ever post.

If Les is let go, this program will tank. It will be a true return to the 1990s, and will mark the return of true mediocrity to the LSU football program.
Can people honestly not stop and actually process what is happening at Texas, or Southern Cal? These are historic programs that are steeped with prestige and loaded with resources (yes, more than LSU).
Please!! Texas waited too long to get rid of Mack, and the program had already gone into decline. That was more on Mack than it was strong at the beginning. This program is declining yearly despite our talented recruiting classes, and it's on coaching and Miles. It is not getting better. You are either getting better or worse, and the last three or four years, we have gotten worse progressively despite talented recruiting classes. That comes down to Miles stubbornness to change and adapt, loyalty to friends instead of the coach that can get the job done.

I think this is what you're looking for:

Or we keep les to long and turn in to Texas
I agree with the OP and this. These are our three possibilities. We upgrade coaches, which will require some luck. We downgrade coaches (even with better X's and O's, we need top recruiters). Or we wait too long and even a better coach struggles to pick up the pieces.

We have a solid team and the #1 recruiting class next year - very capable of a NCG win.

This! Les leaves, we are fricked for years to come book it. Les stays we have great years coming to LSU football.
If Les leaves, I for one will be the first one to say "SEE dumbass's,I told you so" and will bring it up every week to remind you about it. Most ranters here were not even born before 90'. You have no clue, but you're fixing too.

Yes yes, the naysayers are coming out of the woodwork. You may have all the ones that live in Lexington as well.

I feel an epic Miles rant coming on ESPN next week. Either that or we will wear all purple next week.

How about if he's proven to be right?
Are you going to come back?
I think there's a wad of posters here that want change just for the sake of it, you can't see past today,
Keeping this recruiting class together is utmost priority.
Team will be stacked with experience next season.
I hope they give him one more year for those two reasons alone.
Needs to be changes made in the corr positions

quote:This is probably true, but you have to act on principal and not be held hostage by idiots. So be it. The presumption that the Texas and USC scenarios will happen in Baton Rouge are hysterical speculation by people who've been coddled all their lives.
So, don't fool yourselves into thinking that elite coaches will line up to come to LSU - they won't.
