I know it's an eternity ago, but do you remember how Skip handled pitchers in OOC games? PM wants to see if Smith can pitch at this level, as well as thinking Gilbert is the next Matty Ott.
If you examine things, if Smith pitched decent at all, we're 6-0.

Like I said I support CPM, but you don't take a pitcher out that just struck out the side. How do you think the pitcher feels?

This is big boy baseball. The feelings of the pitcher don't matter.
It's early in the season. I'm sure Mainieri wants to put as many of his relievers in real situations as he can.

That could be said about anything you are critical of, minus a few things of which you are very knowledgeable.

In the case of Riley Smith, CPM knows we need him as the Sunday starter. He's trying to knock the rust off with some relief appearances. In this case the need to bring Smith along outweighs the need to win a meaningless game.
This may be the best, most logical LSU baseball post I've ever seen on the Rant.
True. I remember in 2000 when Skip kept trotting Hodges out to the mound to get rocked over and over again. We all thought WTF? Then in the SEC tourney he started pitching lights out and was almost unhittable through the CWS, where he earned MOP.

tigernation56, yea, right. He's in the college baseball HOF because he's won by smoke & mirrors. He's won the regular league championship several times, the West Division numerous times, the SEC league Tourney many times, more than anyone else, he's won regional, super regionals, been to Omaha several times: and he's a bad coach because he's only won one national championship? Skip has been quoted several times as saying CPM is one of the greatest college baseball coaches in the history of the game. Yet you & the other morons knocking CPM know better?

No matter what pitcher we put out there we have to field the ball behind him.
