7 of those were a fumble recovery for a td. The Tennessee defense only gave up 1 td to Auburn.

Auburn's O scored only 7 and they had only 3 drives over 20 yards compared to 8 drives over 20 yards against us.

Hate to say this, but this season is turning out EXACTLY the way I thought it would. I had hoped the defense would be a little more stout, but, c'mon, folks, we had to replace three of our starters in the secondary.

I don't care how much experience or inexperience you had to work with, those guys need time to gel. The good news is, the coaches have an extra week to work on the game plan for Florida.

What they need to do is force Timmy to make quick decisions. Relying upon the front four to give us a pass rush 99 percent of the time just ain't gonna cut it. We have to get penetration to throw off his timing.

After watching three Florida games so far this season, one thing stands out: regardless of how much Urban talks about having a lot more weapons this season at his disposal, he doesn't have any confidence in those weapons. The only two he likes are Tebow and Harvin. Shut down those two and we can beat Florida.

Actually, Ole Miss had one more tool to shut down the powerful UF offense: A hand during a PAT.

ah, see I didn't see the game. their o only scored 14 on our D, I'll take a D that allows 14 ppg on avg.

Defense is definitely a concern.

This is also the same guy that has USF #8, a team that will be out of it by week 7.

Yeah that week 7 bye is gonna destroy that team.

Yet no one has mentioned the offense turning the ball over near midfield allowing short fields for MSU to work with.

Our pass defense is suspect. Our run defense is solid.

I am a personally a little frustrated with our defensive coaches. We play excellent d against more traditional offenses but when teams spread us out they continue to eat our lunch. Thankfully we have enought talent prevent any major meltdowns. Every week we are told its all because of breakdowns or mistakes. I think the scheme needs adjusting. Maybe more blitzes, maybe more dime but it needs tweaking.

You know the spread is supposed to do that.

Spread offenses will get yards. Period.

Key is to limit any big plays and make the offense earn every yard. 3rd and long is a spread killer and a key to beating it.

A good defense will force a spread offense to have a near perfect game to win. Near perfect means 80% passes completed, no turnovers and 4-5 big plays (running or passing).

Compared to 2003 when we finished 1st in both total and scoring D, it is easy to feel like "this years D doesn't seem as strong as the last" . However, we absolutely positively have some improvement/ground to be made up defensively if we are to return to Atlanta.

In 2007 and 2003, I am sure there were times when we gave up quick scores to the opponent due to breakdowns. It is going to happen every year. But the fact that the staff remained largely in tact from last and Miles stated his rationale for naming co-coordinators was to keep the same style and system in tact would lend itself to more of the same in terms of production. That has not occurred this year.

Forgive me if I refuse to accept the "there is nothing we can do about it argument". These coaches are smart guys who can be more creative and try different things. The fact is the problems have been happening since the carolina game last year and I have seen very few changes or new wrinkles in the scheme (I know we are playing more man now). I would not have a problem if this was a new problem but fact is teams have been attacking us the same way for over a year and there seems to have been few adjustments.

Is this a change in schemes due to change in coaches or a drop off in the talent level of our secondary? I'm not smart enough to know if we've changed schemes or not = prepared to get my arse handed to me by rantards but I want to know.

It is a very reasonable question.

The Co-DCs said they are keeping the same defensive scheme. We have not seen some of the aggressive blitzes (not that we did a lot last season after game 3 or 4) but otherwise the same.

We have new DBs, our middle LB was out, two DTs were lost early in the MSU game.

We lost the most decorated DT in the history of LSU to the draft. We have had a game moved to 190 AM and moved one game to later in the season due to a hurricane. MSU used a different QB. One that is very different than the one schemed for. AU and MSU were weak offenses, which MAY have led to a more vanilla defensive game plan.

Bottom line: way too early to panic over a 4-0, #2 rated team.

We had an absolutely terrible tackling game against a Miss State team that brought its A-game. Look at the replay and just watch the missed tackles. It happens, you can not be "up" for every single game in the schedule. Luckily this one happened against State. The Hat, with two weeks prep time, will have us ready for Fla.
