Why didn’t Burns stand in line with Ancer’s putt to watch the break?
Is there a rule against that?

They never stand right behind the line. They’ll usually walk behind after the putt is struck, but this putt was too short.

You really think he missed because he couldn’t read a 4 ft putt?

That putt looked like 3 feet at the very most
Posted on 8/8/21 at 6:27 pm to Gutsandbutts
Yes. There is a rule against it.

It was 5 ft.
It was basically a dead straight putt, inside the hole for sure. It looked like he pushed it right off the face, but maybe it was the camera angle.

It wasn’t a dead straight putt. I know it’s tough to tell but ancer even had to start his outside of the hole. It wasn’t nearly as easy as you think. He makes it if he puts more pace on it. Or if he plays more break.
That being said, he had nearly the same putt 15 minutes earlier and Ancer’s putt to read. He should have made it.

Burns has been playing for trophies on Sundays with some frequency now. He's gonna get his.

What a terrible title to this thread. He didn't shank the putt. He missed the putt. He has already won on the PGA Tour this year, so he already has a trophy. Burns is now #10 in the FedEx Cup standings so he is playing really well this season. The OP has no idea what a "shank" really is.

Burns has had a really good season. Can’t wait for the next tournament.

You probably can't break 100 on your best day. And you are also an embarassment to the Air/Space Forces.

No clue. That’s why I asked.

He’s already won this year so “got his” and that wasn’t a shank.

Not a shank

You need to learn what a true shank is.

He didn’t shank the putt….and her certainly didn’t EXTEND the playoff.

Until you feel your fillings vibrating from catching one hard on the hozel, you don’t truly know what a shank is.

The only thing you can say is that if Burns hadn’t played as mediocre as he did on Saturday or if he had just bogeyed 13 instead of Doubling it on Sunday, he would have won outright with no need for a playoff. He left some holes out there. He even said he didn’t think he played well enough to win even before the leaders fell off the pace and brought him to the playoff. All that said, he was 16 under and tied for 2nd in a tournament that included the world’s best. To completely dismiss that with a snarky “shanks putt to extend playoff” is both ludicrous and stupid. It completely ignores the fact that he played as well as he did and it’s simply incorrect as it wasn’t a shank. OP clearly knows less about golf than I do and I know next to nothing.
