My guess is that Aranda was somewhat disappointed with last years defense and is seeking more ways to apply greater pressure on offenses, especially with Chaisson now on the end.

Divinity can make the calls and get the defense aligned the way Devin White could. That's why he's one of the inside linebackers now. Phillips and Queen aren't there yet.

Am I the only one that’s not that high on Divinity? If I remember correctly didn’t ole miss just dominate him for 4 quarters? I’m not saying I think I know more than Aranda and the staff but my gut tells me he’s not as physical as Queen or Phillips. Thoughts opinions anyone

LSU managed to be a middle of the pack team in the SEC in sacks without having a go-to edge rusher

It was actually without having a DT that commanded double-teams in the middle creating more one-on-one situations for the Lawrence, Fehoko, and Logan. Shelvin and Ika are true 3-4 NTs.

Phillips and Queen are similar. They are big body ILBs.

Divinity has a little more speed and can rush the passer or cover from inside.

He will probably still blitz a lot, we sent White all the time.

He may also move around

But this is the best way to put your best LB on the field all the time.

He was subbed out a lot in various packages last year.

I really don't understand how its not Phillips and Queen in the middle and Chaisson/Divinity on the edges...Baskerville as the fill in. I wouldn't want Queen or Phillips on the sideline for any play, both of them can ball.

I think Divinity is going to explode this year and really show how good of a player he really is out there. He's patiently waited his turn and now is his time to step up and become one of the leaders on and off the field.

What were some of the other moves on defense this offseason?

Making true freshman Stingley a starter opposite Delpit.

Divinity's speed makes him valuable in the middle, he can do it all, rush, play the run, cover a receiver or tight-end in passing lanes.

Stingley, Delpit, and Fulton will all play in the secondary. Are there three better on any team in the NCAA? No, not even Alabama.

Obviously you would pull the backer that is not the best in pass coverage...you can still blitz Stevens or let him cover so he becomes an X factor

Queen Chaisson outside. Phillips Divinity inside. Anthony next man up outside. Baskerville next man up inside. But tbh depending on the offensive scheme and personnel Aranda will mix and match.
