re: LSU working Harold Perkins at inside linebacker proves more versatility is on the way

He’s also been working some with the JACK linebackers as well so that remains an option, though the focus does appear at least in the early weeks, to be more centered on the inside linebackers.
Trying to primarily use him at a less valuable position?

Think how much he will benefit having Mason Smith in front of him eating blocks and collapsing the pocket!

Perkins lined up primarily next to BJ Ojulari as his role increased in the defense.
Now, Glenn, when you say this, it makes me think you weren’t watching the games last season. HP played Jack for one (1) game last season when Ojulari was out. The rest of the season he played primarily at Sam on the opposite side of the field, and he also had plays where he was used at Will as a spy.

That kind of speed and tenacity up the middle is even more scary.

He lined up as a nickel cornerback a good bit last year. I think he can play any position, and offenses won't know how to prepare.
Kind of…
He was playing Sam LB (or Nickel Sam) and simply moved outside the box to cover the Slot.
Additionally, LSU no longer plays with a Nickel Corner; they use a Nickel Safety (AKA “Buffalo Nickel”) to have a bigger defender to stop the run from the 4-2-5 package. We have been accustomed to LSU running with 3 CBs for years: now they run with 3 Safeties.

It's not about moving him to middle LB, it's about disguising what he's doing in the scheme to trip up the other team.

Where was he in the a and m game and uga game? He’s been figured out.
I don't know why you're laughing but Jimbo and Kirby schemed their plays to where HP was manned up outside the hash on a slot or back split out wide. Therefore, he was nowhere near the "play." Moving him inside at times disrupts that.

BJ is 250 lbs so are the two transfers they brought in. He simply doesn’t have the necessary size to do what they want him to do in the run game at that position. They’ll still put him there in passing situations, teaching him how to play ilb keeps him on the field at all times

it only took me one of your 4953 posts to figure out that you're a dumbass.

I think The more he can process the better he will get (starting at a really high floor)
Obviously there will be games we want to spy him and situations where we want him to just pin his ears back and go after the QB. He was dominant for a reason
But we also want him involved when teams are running between the tackles and lining up in
I don't know why you got downvoted for this.
Him playing inside backer was always the plan

Wait, so you think perkins should just be a pure jack linebacker?
I hope not.

Seemed like at the end of the season teams were learning how to scheme against him with more success. I like the move. It will keep him on the field more and I think he will have more opportunities to make game impacting plays.

So much more to football than see ball, tackle ball which is all they gave him in his freshman year.
Why you equate him learning all the positions of a LB'er to "oh no they are moving him to a less productive position" baffles me. Nothing was said but "he is learning the position of linebacker" CBK
