The LSU Band did not compare very well to the other university bands in the parade (Southern and Talladega College). Also, the Golden Girls were missing.

Surely they have cold weather uniforms.

A politically correct decision in this day & age. Another LSU student was Queen of Argus in Metairie. :-)

They probably chose Zulu over Argus because they wanted people to see them.

The band was smaller looking here because they didn’t make the whole band march. Pretty terrible decision you either march the whole band in something like this or you don’t go

I agree. I'm not a fan of the new leadership of Tiger Band.

That sucks. It was noticeably smaller and missing the golden girls. Whoever made this decision and the decision to skip the bowl game parade should be fired on the spot.

For comparisons, the band in Rex 2012 was a sight to behold.

I agree. As I said, I'm not a fan of the new Tiger Band administration.

Wow!. Those were the days. Bigger. Louder.

All you have to do is take a look at the number of brass instruments we have now compared to 2012. There's the reason for such a drop in power of sound.

I agree 100%. During that administration, the band had 325, and they were turning away close to 100 each year!! Now, they are taking anyone who can spell their own name. Sad.

The band has 325. Just not 325 in Zulu. To your way of thinking, it should be good that the band students were not required to march in the parade, since it would have been forcing them to participate in what you view to be a 'racist' activity.

I agree--I doubt the band is turning away as many these days, and reverting to more brass vs non-brass instruments would be good. But these things alone aren't really good reasons to continually bash the current administration. Think of all of the good things that are currently happening with the band--perhaps this offsets the bad.

Such as?

I admit that the halftime shows have been a bit more entertaining, but I'd take the 2012 version of Tiger Band over what we have now any day of the week. I've heard a lot of negative things about the current administration, mostly from former TB members. I'm not sure why the current directors would want less brass in a marching band. TGBFTL is still a very good band, but they used to be the best band in the SEC, hands down. Now, I'd probably rank them behind Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee.

What have these people done that's so bad? Their shows are entertaining and students seem happy. Hell, they just marched in Zulu and probably were paid. Numbers may be off kilter between sections, but that's par for the course for any new administration. Previous administration seems to have done way more questionable things than the current one, IMO.

The band's numbers are declining and so is their sound. Why would a marching band director want his/her band to be composed of primarily woodwinds as opposed to brass, which generates the majority of the powerful sound?

All you have to do is watch a video of the band from 5 years ago to see the drop off.
