We really don't need him to shoot more. We don't need someone shooting sub 40% taking all of our shots. I don't know why everyone looks for him to be the next Chris Jackson. He's not even as fast or has as good a dibble as CJ did. And his jump shot may be the worst on the team.

Coming into the game, he was averaging 45%. After today, he's shooting 42.8%. He still needs to improve, but he's not as bad as people are saying.

Edit: For comparison, Hickey never shot above 38% in his career at LSU.

He was a streaky shooter who couldn't finish at the rim, played the steal on defense instead of closing out. So far Gray is a major upgrade on defense and offensively he can finish if he just figures out when to pass and when to not

hickey couldn't sniff gray. A) he's smaller B) he couldn't attack as well C) he's so fricking lazy and D) sucked on defense. Last year dribble penetration killed us cuz Hickey couldn't stop anyone

Grey definitely needs to be more assertive. He can get to the rim at will. I don't know why he's so apprehensive to finish when he gets there though. Strange.

Hickey could of helped this team this year coming off the bench. Guess that's why he left, He wanted to be a starter

Yeah, he'd have been nice to have off the bench, or maybe even starting. Then we could let Gray run the second team and be the main option along with Tim.

I will never understand our fan's perception of certain guys when they leave the program as compared to others. He was a Tiger plain and simple, and anyone that does not think he would have been a contributor this year had he been allowed to stay, would be silly. Great point having Quarterman come in and be the defensive stopper you need, while adding a change of pace PG that a lot of NBA teams have would be great. It is not necessarily a problem that Hickey was shorter than most, but coupled with Stringer it really hurt.

Later in the year if we do not have somebody step up we will be trouble and definitely not get to the tourney if we can only play 6 guys. 7 is a stretch for many good teams, but 6 guys, there is no way.

This team will give a lot of people a lot of problems simply because of how athletic we are, but in terms of the tourney must have somebody step up.

He hit 7 out of 11 in the first game against Gardner Webb. In the last 3 he has shot below 40%. When he played for Texas Tech he averaged 36% including 19% from 3. I hope he has improved but I wonder if he scored more in JC because he was just more athletic and the defenses aren't as tall or as good defenders.

Also, Hickey rarely turned the ball over and was a decent 3 point shooter. (comparison more for other posts)

Lol. Hickey clearly would be one of the best 5 guys on this team and would obviously be starting. Last years team would beat our current squad by 20 at this point in their respective seasons and the difference is guard play. This team might end up being better, but the disorganization and lack of a leader is hurting them currently.

That's funny because last year's team had no leadership either.

Which team do you think is playing more chaotically at this point in the season? We were giving Memphis all they could handle and almost won that game last year around this time. This was the first game I've seen, but Iwas hoping for more and was sadly disappointed in their overall performace.

Well considering the core of that team (hickey, stringer and JOB) had been playing together for 2 full seasons already, it's really hard to assess anything up to this point.

Are you kidding me? The difference is guard play? The difference between last year and this year is JOB. We have Elbert now instead of JOB. Which causes Mickey to be the low post man and he can't be "the man". GTFO that guard play is the difference.

This is getting ridiculous. Hickey was lazy, only played when he felt like it, and didn't do anything except launch up shots occasionally. Our other guard was 5'8 and could shoot but was literally maybe one of the worst defenders lsu has had in a long time because of his size. Gray plays way better D than Hickey, will average probably close to the same asts, and score more.

Rhode Island beat last year's team during Christmas Break...have we forgotten about that? You lost 2 seniors and 2 Juniors from last year's team. It's gonna take a little while for pieces to flow and everyone find their niche.

Gray is tryin to hard to be a playmaker right now instead of just playin his game or the game. He's tryin to be a more all around player by getting his talented teammates involved with tryin to set them up with pasing. He just needs to do what he does best and that is attack. The Robinson kid is a project right now. Great size and all, but he needs to learn the game. How to use his size and all to dominate. With his size he should easily post people up for facials in the future. Block shots, rebound and all.

No way in hell they should lose to an Old Dominion. Later on in the season when they get better this would be a easy win. They are by far the more talented team. But you can't have cold streaks shooting the ball like they are doing right now.

This is such BS. I wanted Hickey to play as the 6th man off the bench, and wasn't a huge fane because he had a phobia of going inside where he could draw the foul and go to the line. However, "lazy" was never something I would accuse him of being. You must be out of your mind to say stuff like that.

PS: We are letting up perimeter shots this year just like last year. It has nothing to do with the height of our guards. It is all about our emphasis on guards reaching down, the failure on forwards to challenge off of screens, and poor scouting in general.
