i think its funny that we have this huge rivalry with them and haven't gotten to play them...it sucks bc the last two seasons it looked like there was a chance...

the rivalry is there because
1)when we played them, they were # 1 and the game was stolen from us by the refs....
see 1979
2)we beat them at their place in 1984- 23-3
3)the media is always kissing their A@$

Not this year.

Dont jump all over their jocks just yet. USC has question marks and injuries and they play a veteran OSU unit early. I think OSU will own them.

USC was rarely mentioned on this site, other similar LSU website forums, in the local newspapers (other than as much as other teams of similar records and stature), or on local sports radio, or really talked about much prior to 2003 and certainly not in the context of a rivalry.

Not really sure when I started, but I am correct. A bit before or after. I mainaly visited other sites, until i was turned on to this one, which beats them all. I also went back and added to the post.

You may be right but it's by luck. I seriously doubt you were around/reading this site in 2003 to know one way or another for sure on a first-hand basis how LSU fans considered USC on this website. Hell, you didn't register until 2006.

I am right, but not by luck. I was also under a different name. Got banned (Go figure ) and did not realize I could get reinstated. But still not sure if it was prior to 2003. If so, not by much at all.

Also, I would bet that the moon was still in the sky prior to my birth. I have never checked it out to verify, but I am correct.

In other words, you're not really positive how LSU fans talked about USC on this website, but you bet they didn't talk about USC as a rivalry then, eventhough you spouted off as if you knew first-hand earlier in the thread when you really didn't know first-hand.

Never said first hand. That's you trying to imply things again.

To answer you question or reply to the statement:
No, I am REALLY positive. Just as postive that the moon was in the sky before I was even born. That is how positive I am that LSU fans did not talk as much about USC on this website or others prior to 2003. That is how positive I am that the local papers and sports radio did not discuss as much prior to then. If you want to verify, as you seem interested in doing so, you could always try to get info from webmasters of this site, other sites and do newspaper archives etc.

YOu don't have to say "first hand".

Of course I'm implying things because that's what you implied, you talked as if you know/knew first hand but you really don't.

You're right. We never discussed anything related to USC prior to 2003.

The split national championship and ESPN's consistent love fest with the Trojans (as well as the whole, "can they three-peat" stuff) caused many LSU fans to despise USC a bit.

If you want to make that the issue, keep on. My statement remains the same: USC was rarely mentioned on this site, other similar LSU website forums, in the local newspapers (other than as much as other teams of similar records and stature), or on local sports radio, or really talked about much prior to 2003 and certainly not in the context of a rivalry. And I am certain of it.

In final, I am going to the store now. I am certain I will get wet (even though I have never gone outside on 8/24/08 before). Been out on other rainy days, but never on this one. I wil let you know if I get wet. Meanwhile, check out all the archives you can and let me know when you are convinced I am correct.

I won't make an issue of it, like you do with LSU fans and their narrative of USC.

Maybe it was mentioned, maybe it wasn't. You're not certain of anything that was posted on here in 2003. I bet you got "banned" for obsessing about LSU fans.

Terrible comparison. Be careful, very careful on how you talk like you know things in the future.

But, if you want to give me the username you allegedly went by that you got "banned" under, I'd appreciate it.

TigerDroppings is not "media" to me since most of the information is not put out by them
Sports Shows, TV commentators, etc. are.

maybe in 2003 there was not a lot here, there was a lot in BR...
the 1979 game in Tiger Stadium was probably the highest energy level game ever.
I am sure some of you will quote others but were not there in '79 to really compare.
...not a put down...just that, unless you were there, you can not know.
ask anyone who was.

You are right. That was the future. I did get wet by the way. A better one would be the moon comparison. I have never looked it up, but am certain that ot was there before I was born.

Rocket, surely you realize that my statements were not intended for submission to a scientific journal. Some things are true, even though the event has not been witnessed by everyone. This is one of them. If you want proof, go check it out.

Prior to 03.

USC was surely discussed in the context of the 79 and 84 games. 2003 really started it and I think most would agree (well, maybe except Rocket). I believe that even if LSU and USC had never played, the talk would have still been there after the 03 season. Yes, the 79 games does go down as the biggest ever. Virtually all had moved on after 1984, other than reminiscing as the biggest game ever (within the context of a team of that stature). I don't think 2003 "re-opened a can of worms. It was a new can of worms.

That's still a bad comparison because we know all about the moon; it's common knowledge.

I attended both USC - LSU games. I was a student in 1979 and was stationed at Edwards AFB (near LA) in 1984. Both games could not have been more different. The 1979 contest featured a #1 ranked USC team that featured the likes of Charles White, Marcus Allen, Anthony Munoz and Ronnie Lott. LSU was playing its final season for Charles McClendon and was determined to send him out in style. An incredibly exciting contest that went down to the wire, played in front of what many former USC players say to this day was the loudest, craziest enviorment they'd ever experienced.
Flash forward 5 years to the LA Coliseum. 2 teams having good but not great seasons, lots of empty seats and little if any noise coming from anyone but the 5,000 or so LSU fans in attendance. A game dominated by LSU far more than the score indicated.
This hardly seems like the stuff of rivalry legend to me. All of this is really just media tripe and message board fodder.
Bottom line, if LSU were to ever play USC, I wouldn't look at it as any kind of "crusade" game, just another game I'd hope to see the Tigers win. I'd only place a special emphasis on it if both teams met up with the NC on the line.
Right now, all I care about is ASU and the fact that the long, hot dog days of summer are nearly over...let's play some football.
