This will be my first opportunity to watch LSU play live this year. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like I've missed much. Nevertheless, I'm excited about the opportunity to see my alma mater in action.

I grew up attending basketball camps at Rice, and always enjoyed my time there. Tudor Fieldhouse is a nice, cozy venue that seats approximately 5,000. I'm not expecting a large crowd tonight, especially since the Texas Bowl is being played down the road coupled with the Miami Heat being in town. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Trent Johnson and assistant coach Brent Scott. Trent Johnson was an assistant coach under coaching legend Willis Wilson at Rice from 92-96. LSU assistant coach Brent Scott played at Rice and left the school as their all-time leading scorer and rebounder. He was also an assistant coach at Rice before coming to LSU.

I don't know much about Rice these days, but I did see where they played UT and Miami down to the wire. They also lost to North Texas on the road by 3 points. There's not much to say about LSU, they have been very inconsistent. I expected that coming into the season with so many fresh faces, but expected more highs than lows. I knew the freshmen would struggle at times, but Malcolm White has certainly been a disappointment so far IMO.

At this point in time, I'm just hoping the Tigers will show improvement from here on out. The SEC is downright terrible, and the SEC West is even worse. LSU should be able to steal a few games in conference play despite their poor showing to date. Regardless of how this year plays out, there is no reason LSU should not make the NCAA tournament next year.

Stro...
LSU Basketball has been nothing short of horrendous this year. The one thing that has me baffled is they seem to run no set offense. They pass one or two times then jack it up. They also have ZERO inside presence. White, Warren, Green seem to have no fundamentals. i.e. blocking out, finishing easy lay-ups or put backs. It's really been very hard to watch. Trent is telling everyone to be patient and that it's a work in progress. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But what I've seen so far has been very unimpressive. Turner and Stringer are the bright spots. That's about it.

Same here, I was really expecting this team to make the NIT. Regardless of what happens the rest of this season, LSU must return to the NCAA tournament next season. I've watched a few games and listened to some others, and it hasn't been pretty.

SS, I think we're in for a rough year unless somethings changes dramatically.
This year's team just isn't very good. I've held out hope and optimism, but it's just not getting much better.
We do have a few shooters that if hot, can lead to some W's. But, unless our inside players get alot better and we start keeping opposing teams from getting to the basket so easily, we're in trouble.

I plan to attend tonight with my son. The Rice coach is an aquaintance of mine. He seems like an ambitious, hardworking guy. He coached at Berkley before comeing to Rice a couple years ago, and I'm guessing that he hopes to move on to a bigger program in the near future.

That's funny, I will also be there with my son tonight. My bro-in-law is a JUCO coach and is familiar with both staffs. He was able to get us a couple of tickets through the Rice coaches.

Rice hosted Arizona a few weeks ago and 2,600 people showed up. I'm hoping for 2,000 considering the weather is nasty, holiday season is in full swing, other local sporting events, etc.

The defense is sorely lacking with this team thus far. We need to improve in that area or we will be forced to expect true freshman to score each trip down the court, which is just unrealistic at this point. Still very optimistic about the future regardless of how we've played recently. Our best players are young guys. Hope to continue to improve but I think I was overly optimistic to start the year. Still think this team is a year away from being very good.

TA, I agree on the future.
I really expected this team to be a bit further along. But, their just struggling getting it together.
One good thing is that at times you see the talent of the Freshmen. You also see the talent in Warren, White, Green, and Dotson at times. It just seems like it's few and far between.
If they somehow get it together, which is possible, they could still make a run at the NIT.
But, as the season gets later it looks like we're still hoping for Next Year.

I'll be there too. I think some other TDers are meeting at the Gingerman before the game around 5:30 and then heading to the game shortly thereafter. I'll be wearing my purple and gold!

I do agree that I thought they would be further along at this point. I think the biggest problem is their perimeter defending and the fact that we just haven't rebounded well. There is a level of learning involved even on the defensive end, but at times we extend ourselves out way too far on the perimeter and expose ourselves to dribble penetration and our big men just aren't showing the type of athleticism and defense we need.

Look forward to O'Bryant and thus far it seems as though Isaac has been a beast for Pickering, which is good because we could use another athletic guy on the perimeter that can play above the rim.

Yeah people are bagging on Storm and White...while White some what disappointing on the offensive end..he's still banging on the other side. Storm does a good job for undersized big man.
Our permitted defense has just been atrocious though. If other team has a good guard...hold on for a long night

I'm mainly standing up for their defense which isn't nearly as bad as our guards have been.
Although...I still don't know why our team hasn't learned the first bit of help side defense.

Wow, that was worse than I expected. LSU was just knocked off by a team that hasn't gone dancing in four decades! I'm usually pretty optimistic when it comes to LSU basketball but I'm scared what the rest of this season has in store for us. On a more positive note, I was impressed with the number of LSU fans in attendance. Too bad the team never had the lead after being up 3-0.

it was really a terrible performance. I just wish we'd show some improvement. I'm scared about the direction of not only this team but this program
