Two things jump out at me in looking at OU. First is their conference record, 13-11. The latest RPI rankings have only two Big 12 teams in the top 50, Kansas St. And OU. The SEC has ten teams in the top 50. That suggests that LSU has a much better conference record in a much tougher conference.

On the other hand, their stats are very similar to Arkansas and, like Arkansas, they have an ace pitcher who is projected to go high in the MLB draft. Stanek beat LSU both times we faced him this year. That suggests that LSU could struggle against Gray Friday night, like it has struggled against Stanek twice this year.

LSU won its series against Arkansas 2-1, but it was close. If the super regional with OU is that close it will get pretty tense this weekend.

I wonder how LSU compared to Stony Brook last season? Stats means very little come this time of year. I'd think it basically comes down to which team is playing hotter at this particular time.

OU - Matt Oberste

Seems we just pitch around this guy and they won't have any offense

For sure. And this OU team is very streaky, with both losing and winning streaks in there. Guess what they're in the middle of right now?

But honestly, we should roll. Pitch around Oberste and we get 2-3 runs on the board I think we win.

They really don't have the bats and if Nola brings his usual dominance, this should be a W.

Didn't stony brook have big time numbers, but most thought they were inflated due to their schedule?

Doesn't seem to be the same here.

exactly. it's not often you get to completely focus on 1 guy, but this is one of those ole "if you're gonna get beat, don't let this guy beat you"

Stony Brook had 5 players drafted in the top 12 rounds last year. They were a veteran team loaded with talent.

LSU didn't have any offense last year or speed in the outfield to keep up.

Don't give Oberste (or their other 300 hitter) any hittable pitches, maybe a little chin music and we roll in 2 games IMO.

(Sarcastically) Yes, he got the name Wild Thing because his pet snake is out of control.

We don't play like that. That is something Miss St does, not LSU. Nola will never bean a guy on purpose unless he makes fun of his mother. In that case, sweet chin music is fair.

Stats are fun to look at and pour over, but they really don't get far because there is not nearly enough of this:

quote:

Vs. RPI Top 50
LSU - 30-8
OU - 5-3

they are almost always apples and oranges. If you looked at the pitching stats from my son's team this year, you would want to draft the #5 pitcher. Was 4 and 0 with a sub 1 ERA. of course those teams couldn't hit a beach with a beach ball.

Chin music just makes them step back to high and inside heat, not necessarily hit them.
