Welcome to Tiger Rant Brotha

We seem to have similar teams. Ground a pound with a side of slightly below average QB play.

However, Danny Etling had the game of his life in the final regular season game, and I have to think that if he plays like that, its a MUCH different ballgame.

Part of me wants one of those legendary ND vs LSU classics. Alot of rushing yards to be had.

We have really tightened up our defense over the last few games.

28-24 Tigers.

Nice to see a reasonable fan here. Ive been around for 4 years and we have some god awful Clemson fans that lurk here only to post when its convenient.

Stay as long as you'd like!!

ND has played a really tough schedule (top 5 in the country looking at a couple ratings) but LSU has played some really good teams. they are a hard team for me to figure out looking at stats and highlights.

Despite what they will publically admit, ND is a MUCH stronger team than LSU. The level of competition is Number 1 and their Massey Rating is 9! The game will come down to defense and play calling bynoir Offensive coordinator who is trying to leave or being pushed out.
LSU by comparison has a Massey Rating of 21 and lost to 3 teams they should have beaten with a team like they had 3 years or so ago. Bama was weak at the time and that was a winnable game.
LSUs SoS was 47! They beat 5 teams that fired their head coaches.
This season is a facade.

If Key doesn’t play it will be difficult to get a pass rush which will expose our secondary who struggled at times.
Good luck to you all. I expect a tough game and give the nod to coachingto ND.

Each year I see the Pac 12 rated low in these fictitious rankings. Yet LSU still refuses to honor their agreement to face ASU (Sun Devils)! how come?

Here are a couple of tidbits from an LSU fan's perspective for ya...

LSU has plenty of speed rushers to test your OT's.

The Tigers had major injuries on the DL for their early losses to Miss st and Troy. Once the DL was healthy things were very different. ND will not wear this defense down.

LSU's offense is still a work in progress but has improved noticeably . The OL is improved and has less injuries than earlier in the year. They have become a very good 2nd half squad.

Guice is running angry again and our other RB is a sledgehammer.

i know its not an apples to apples comparison, but would you say your defensive front is closer to a Georgia/miami or an NC state/USC?

i haven't really decided yet which way i am leaning. Default tends to go irish, but still trying to evaluate with brain instead of heart.

Good matchup with two top 15 programs. Love that we landed u guys. I think this will be a very good game. Guice is health and Etling is playing as well as ever. We have a young oline in spots so I worry about that ND dline. How would u rate your front 7?

ND's defense in general is hit and miss. They had really solid stats early on, but they weren't winning by dominating offenses. they were just playing good solid fundamental football. Staying in their positions, tackling better then i have seen in years. They looked strong and just played smart. I was amazed at how much better their tackling got it one year. For once, we weren't bouncing off people, allowing people to run through tackles, etc. if they hit you, they tackled you and hard hits didn't lead to our guys getting hurt right away. It was a complete turn around - but they were not the most talented bunch. Now, the last few games, alot of that went away. People were out of position, arm tackles, etc.

In general, the front 7 is average. The DE are smaller, but pretty quick. I wouldn't look for much on the edges, but try and keep it up the middle. Nyles Morgan (MLB) is a great athlete, but suspecting he has a low football IQ. he makes plays with ability, but is always in the wrong spot. So the middle is usually open, but they can contain very well.

Be warned...the same people saying ND will beat us are also the ones who said bama would hang 45 on us.

(they have no clue what they're talking about)

ehh most of us are only guessing, some are just more educated guesses haha jk. With these kids, its hard to say how they will be from week to week

I think it will be a close game. Lsu has a solid defense but our passing game is pretty shaky. Like previous seasons, if you can stop the run you'll have a chance to win.

our DB's are good enough to play with an average passing game, but need a little help from the DL. If they can't get any pressure, they aren't good enough to be put on an island.

Safety play is HORRIBLE. ZERO picks this year, if thats even possible.

Offense weakness - not having a QB that can sufficiently run
Offense strength - run game (never know who has the ball)
Defense weakness - not really (screens worked against them)
Defense strength - Yes!

i like our odds at having a chance to stop a good run team compared to a good pass team, so good for ND. They have faced some really good running teams this year. Usually give up yards, but only a few rushing TDs

Offensively the run game is the major strength, passing game weakness. If we’re passing, most of the time it’s a hold your breath bomb. A few boom or bust end arounds. Pass protection can have issues. If guice/Williams get going it usually means victory, if not it usually means defeat.

On defense very strong, both front 7 and secondary. Mostly man coverage. Devin white is a freak and sets the tone. Thin on the defensive line but with a healthy Key and Lawrence that becomes a strength. Aranda will probably blitz heavily.

We have a much better defense (and coordinator) than when we played y’all 4 years ago and a comparable back to Fournette in Guice. Should be a great game

Blitzing ND is a common solution. Hopefully they are ready for it.

Should be a really good game.

I appreciate the welcome!

Our QB play has been hard to figure out. He seems to be a50% passer to matter how good or bad the team is haha.

He really throws a nice ball, just gets zero help from his receivers and gets sloppy with his mechanics that effect his accuracy. His rushing is a nice advantage though, has made some huge plays.

I've seen every ND game coached by Brian Kelly.
His teams are generally soft. He had a new OC and DC forced upon him this year to try and right the ship. Don't forget -- ND was 4-8 with an NFL starting qb last year.
This new coaching combo worked well, until the second half of the Wakr Forest game. The team was gassed and Wake marched up and down the field. Miami didn't break this team, Wake Forest did and gave the blue print on how to beat them. No huddle, dink and dunk.
Kelly wants to be at ND less than the fans even want him there. He never practices special teams and LSU will return every kick off to at least the 35. I expect the 45.
Wimbush has zero accuracy and Kelly has taken over the OC chores. That has led to the implosion of ND's running game and a schoolyard, chuck it in the air mentality. Kelly will have his team throwing on 3 and 2 inside the 5 all day. Because he thinks his scheme will beat yours. He believes this because he is a soft coach, and his team follows suit.
He doesn't give a shite and is riding out his contract. Ed O will have his team up. ND will roll out flat. I've seen this movie before.
LSU 33
ND 16

i have been up and down on Kelly. I have never been one to say "he needs to be fired today!" alot of people yell that everytime he loses. I think he is a really good coach, but have wondered after this year (funny that it wasn't during last year) If things are getting a little stale at ND for him and the team. Not saying its a throw him out of town and/or he should be ashamed to leave, just sometimes some fresh air is needed. I am putting a lot of feelings about him on this game though. If they come out with a bad game plan and flat, i think its time. If they can put together a win, ill give him the chance to continue to build this team.

Wake Forest had a really good game plan against ND, but Miami just rolled them. any game plan would have worked that day.

-Hopefully ND scores enough to give your kick return plenty of chances to prove you right (or wrong!). Kelly isn't calling the plays though and i think the new OC is still learning a little bit - i haven't been blown away with him, but willing to try him out for now.

One thing that has been a great improvement this year is ND is the red zone. Technically, they are 41/45 with scores in the red zone, with 34 TDs (7 FGs) but out of the 4 non scores, 2 of them were the end of games when ND took a knee and one was an INT by our backup QB in his first start (Wimbush was injured). Wimbush has only failed to score 1 time in the redzone this year, and that was the last possession against stanford.
