Houston is 8-1 with an RPI of 78. Their best win is a blowout of RPI #8 Arkansas. Their only loss was to Drexel.

They're led in scoring by Rob Gray who is averaging 21.6PPG.

Houston opponents score 65.4PPG giving them a national rank of 63 while LSU ranks 29th in the nation at 85.6PPG.

LSU is #3 in the nation in FG% at 53.6%.

One major key will be 3 point shooting. Houston ranks in the top 20 in 3 point percentage while LSU defends the 3 pretty poorly. Opponents shoot 37.6% against the Tigers, giving LSU a national rank of 281 in that category.

Houston always seems to play LSU tough. I'm hoping a nice crowd can push the Tigers to a win.

LSU 88
Houston 83

I think Houston will finish with a top 50 RPI and if so, a win would be huge toward LSU's bubble chances

I'm trying not to even consider we could make the tournament. The SEC looks awfully strong. We'll have to continue our hot shooting just to get to 7 wins I think... or make a TREMENDOUS leap defensively. I'm hopeful for 7-8 wins and an NIT bid which would be a nice improvement over the disaster that was last year.

oh I agree. We are nowhere close defensively to be a tourney team now but I'm hoping it's an area they can "grow up" in and be decent by the end.

I expect some bad early losses in conference play

but a win here(along with beating Mich) may get us some consideration if we make a decent run and finish 8-10 in conference

The SEC schedule doesn't do us any favors either.
Very tough early on, will be hard to get off to a good start.

Good thing is we catch UK early before all those young players grow up.

Coach Wade said after Christmas. Memphis at the earliest. He’s out of the boot, so that’s progress.

No one could guard Gray 2 years ago. Test for Waters and co.

I was so mad when they lost that game and northern Iowa.

That game a couple of years ago pissed me off so much. Hornsby went off, but we refused to guard anyone.

Houston is good but don't forget last year's Lsu team beat the hell out of a hot Houston team.

Worsham just tweeted that Edwards Tremont and reath all rank in top ten in OTrg.

That sounds reasonable to me. I agree that I think the SEC is going to be very strong this year. But if they put five teams from the SEC in the tournament (very unlikely) we might have a fighting chance.

The Houston game will show us a lot. I think we really need Epps and Simms to hit some threes to really open up the offense. If Walters goes crazy it will leave a lot of guys open.

I don't know if 8-10 in SEC play would be enough to put LSU in the NCAAT. The OOC schedule isn't great and they are without a HUGE OOC win. However, beating Houston (to pair with the decent neutral site win vs. Michigan) would at least give LSU a fighting chance going into SEC play.

LSU would have two "good" wins (Michigan, Houston) and no bad losses (ND and Marquette)..assuming they can win out before SEC play starts. The downside is LSU isn't participating in the SEC/Big 12 challenge this year. So they won't have that last chance to get another nice OOC win.

Most sites have LSU’s RPI in the 160s..we play Houston who is in the 78 RPI range. Beating them will help...but not too much. Michigan is a very good win..sitting around 33 RPI. Memphis is about on LSU’s level RPI wise.
