It has been said that there are 150k-200k people on campus on any given gameday.

With this policy, the only people who will have any reason to go to LSU are going to be the ones who want to go to the game.

exactly....those extra 50K to 100K people bring in a lot of money to the baton rouge economy. They'll probably just stay home now.

My regular lot since 2001 is still a free lot, but it will fill up quicker now due to people leaving their regular lots that are now pay per game areas. So, even though on the surface I am not affected, in a practical sense I will be. That is fine as I have enjoyed the experience for free for almost a decade. However, LSU is not the only entity experiencing budget problems. We have already cut back on tickets and how many trips we go to. We have cut back on staying in BR area hotels as we just drive back the 2 and a half hours home after games. I loved the experience but economics will probably reward someone else with our tickets more regularly in the future. It is what it is and I understand. I am not whining, just stating what many feel.

Other than it being "cool" when the announcers say it on TV, are there any other positives from this?

If people want to be there they will still go. They'll either pay the fee or park outside the paid areas. If you say there are 50,000 extra people on campus on a gameday, if this knocks that number in half...is it really a bad thing?

For a big game, 30% of our tailgate doesn't even think about finding tickets. They just come out to have fun.

They aren't paying $40 to do that.

Yes, my one tailgate alone spend around $1,500 for a night game. I will probably spend $750 now because 1/2 my crowd wont even bother showing up. Thats $750 just from one medium size tailgate less for the Baton Rouge economy.

Day games it gets really dicey now.

For the Bama game this year, we had 30 people stay at the tailgate to watch the game.

And none of them are going to pay $40 to do that.

Yeah one guy did a count and he stopped at 60 watching for the Bama game.

I also spent around 3K on shrimp, oysters, 10 kegs, etc... wont have nearly that many people show up now.

Budget cuts don't exist in the athletic department in their minds.

Nevermind. I misread. This stuff's stupid. I think I'll park at my cousin's house and ride my bike.

Ok. But what does it hurt? I know we all like to think we aren't part of the problem. My wife does this sometimes, she'll come out with our daughter and hang out at the tailgate and then go home. Is it really worth her taking up a parking spot on campus? From my point of view, yes. But when you look at it objectively, it probably isn't.

Just to dig deeper for discussion purposes, and of you don't want to go into detail I understand...

But where are you and the majority of your group travelling from? What kind of supplies are you buying in BR?

The atmosphere.

Those who come out just to tailgate are doing so to hang out with their friends. When said friends aren't making their way out there anymore, they are less likely to join in on the fun too.

Domino effect ensues.
