My experience, and from talking with visiting fans, tells me this is complete and utter BS.

Well, technically throwing rocks and beer bottles at the visiting team's bus isn't being an a-hole towards the fans....
quote:

BATON ROUGE, La. --LSU athletic director Skip Bertman apologized to the Tennessee athletic director for the rowdy behavior of some LSU fans who pelted a Tennessee bus with beer bottles before the Volunteers' Monday night victory over the Tigers.

Officials from both schools and LSU Police said people threw the bottles at the last of Tennessee's four buses after the convoy came to a stop near the stadium, resulting in three cracked windows. Some fans also rocked the buses, according to LSU Police.

And a lurker from the SECR! I'd bet other teams' fans spend 99.99% MORE time here on The Rant than LSU fans ever spend on other team boards...total. I'm talking all other team boards altogether.

I work all over the country and everyone that has made the trip to BR says the tail gating with Tiger fans was the best time ever, so I don't know where he gets his info from but he's confused.

We've always treated them just fine, and I can't ever recall an altercation. We've also had a lot of college football fans from across the country come by and have a great time. I remember last season some Nebraska and Kansas fans had a blast.

From my experience, there is no school as inviting to its guest for food and drinks than LSU. However, I can't think of any hostile fan base I've been around either. Closest is Arkansas, but I won't let a few mouth breathers stop me from having a good time

That's funny, the 15 A&M fans that hung out at my spot 2 years ago are already planning their return trip and have offered to pay for whatever we need.

Weird, we met some nebraska fans last year as well. They stopped at our tent to watch our tv when Mcneese was winning. They looked sad

Didn't that tennessee team pull some shite that pretty much guaranteed bottles to be thrown?

ETA: now I remember..they planted their flag on our field after that game. Our fans should have tipped that bus over. frick em

yeah, you have to be a special kind of douche to get verbally "abused" by our fans and not get invited to even one tailgate.

I've been to UGA, Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss, A&M, Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, and multiple bowls and neutral sites, and I don't ever see the mingling and fellowship at other school's tailgates compared to LSU. Florida and Arkansas were particularly bad, but everyone else was fun for the most part

There are some extenuating circumstances around that game.

-First home game since Katrina. Emotions were running pretty high
-maybe the hottest LSU game in the last 20 years
-Again, I am sure a lot of bandwagoners that had no business being on campus that day were there, plastered off their arse.

That's the last "horror" story I can think of. Otherwise, rivals have ripped our hearts out and wrecked our season a few times since then, and no one had a problem

Well I for one will never return to Florida. I've never seen a more hostile fanbase. Every douche in jorts was wanting to fight people for no reason.

Arkansas tailgates are too cold during the LSU game..nobody wants to socialize

I have seen a lot of hospitality extended to fans of opposing teams...however, I have seen a lot of pretty shitty treatment of them as well...

I think it is totally concievable that a visiting fan could come to LSU and have a totally bad impression of the whole thing if they run into a bad fan or two...

When I signed up, there was no SECR.

Through my experiences Tennessee has a classy alumni/fans, Georgia fans are pretty vulgar and assholes. Most opposing fans get treated well in Baton Rouge. Alabama's fans have made the news a couple times lol. A lot of inferior teams in the SEC are jealous of LSU...they have to say something. Just listen to Paul Finebaum's show, he and his callers knock Les Miles and LSU EVERY chance they get.

Reading not your strong suit? It happened before the game.

The problem is that people are pussies and generalize an entire fan base off of 2-3 dumbasses instead of the big picture. I've always enjoyed my time in NWA and Fayetteville, despite the fact that for every 50 cool hog fans is THAT guy that's a douche and wants nothing but to start shite.

It's like how every SECR poster thinks LSU fans are the absolute worst, when they're all here to avoid the dumbasses on their own boards

this has been my experience at away games as well...generally, you can see pretty easily which crews to stay away from...

I think it's far more likely to be a douchebag fan from an opposing team that just can't get into the spirit of things here.

I'd bet large the vast majority of opposing fans visiting the LSU campus get treated better by our fans here than they do by their fellow fans at their respective places. And I do mean "large".

For example, look at the one opposing fan who posted in this thread...posting something from ten years ago...when this thread wasn't even about his own fan base.

How fricking miserable is that? Guy must be a laugh riot at parties...

Reading not ur strong suit haha... Probably don't even know the guy. Let's see. You bring up something that happened 10 years ago. Why was the game played on a Monday? Oh yea because of Katrina and Rita. You bring up a moment of people's character during extreme adversity.
