Went to Hattiesburg to watch LSU softball against USM because that is close to my home and my kids are big Tiger fans. USM, on an eight game losing streak, completely housed the tigers 7-0. I was so disappointed watching the lady Tigers play uninspired ball and lose to an inferior team. Hope the season improves from this point moving forward. However, if the pitching doesn't get more consistent, it may be a struggle this year.

It's gonna be a long season. It's been mentioned on here that some believe the players have given up already. They can't hit, can't pitch, can't field, it's just a big mess. Damn shame with all of the talent they have on that team.

Doesn't really get a whole lot easier from here. They could easily be swept by Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Auburn. All those teams are in the top 25 currently.

They can't overcome the coaching is the biggest problem - she's terrible, all the talent LSU has had over the past few years and can't consistently win big games when it counts. Sooner she's gone, the better....

If they keep going the way it is she won't make it to the end of the season to retire, she will be fired for the end.

Yvette picked a nice time to retire.

I wonder if that is affecting the players.

You're right. The good teams should never lose to the bad teams.

Some LSU fans are such morons. Absolutely nothing is ever the players faults it's always bad coaching. Sometimes players have to stand up and say "we're not going to get our arse kicked today", currently the softball team is not doing this.

this isn't the first time. afew years ago when usm had the blades girl pitching for them, they came here & beat lsu. they've had some good teams.

Yeah, USM stopped us from two WCWS appearance with an LA native as their pitcher.

They suck now, so no excuse whatsoever. I have defended her for quite some time but this is awful.

BTW, James Defeo was the hitting coach on that staff. And USM was top 3 in the nation in hitting when he was there. Of course those girls could smash the ball.

This is NOT the SouthernMiss of all those years ago when they had Blades and Lu Harris as their coach. (now at Georgia)

This was not a good team that they lost to. Then again, this LSU team seems to be showing that this is not a very good team either.

What are the injuries to Applegate and Mouse that have kept them out this long??

And now against KY, Fico gives up a homerun to leadoff batter to start the game! What is going on with this team???

Emily Turner's sophomore year was almost exactly like the one Fico is currently having. This team appears to be on track to have a similar record to that year as well.

Didn't we miss the NCAA Tournament that year?

You can't compare those two teams in my opinion. Turner's soph. year they had future All_Americans in center field and catcher. They had an 1B pitcher in Hofer. Hill at first. Cassell in right. They had much better talent at almost every position. In my opinion this team looks soft (physically and mentally) and will have a tough time pulling out a decent season.
