I wonder if any team has ever had to play the past 3 national champions plus last years runner up in the same season... sounds pretty difficult to me

His #2 and #3 schedule have two open dates. Their OOC games are TCU, Stephen F Austin, Rice and Northern Iowa, UConn, and Iowa. So they both play a D1AA team as well. I guess it would've been better for LSU to just have an open date instead of playing WKU or NSU.

The 2nd schedule is a joke. The other 3 are legit.

Only thing that makes Colorado's tough is no open date.

Vs you already finding a way to bash them? Our tough schedule isn't anything new guy.

Laughable. Show me 4 tougher schedules.
Oregon St. and Colorado have tougher schedules. Rado has ZERO Bye weeks and 8 road games. LSU has the toughest schd out of theams that have a shot at the NC easy.

For the sake of comparison, here are CU's and LSU's top games per the Sporting News Poll. Obviously it's not an exact science but...come on?

That's insignifcant. Show me who doesn't have a couple of creampuffs?
Given that Oregon, WVU are favorites to win BCS conferences, plus Bama, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, Miss State, I'd says thats damn strong. The Vols, Ole MisS, UK have some fine athletes as well.
Phil Steele is the most overrated "analyst".

Easily #1. They just factored in opponents W/L's last year. Not the fact that we have to play Oregon in Dallas, Bama in Tuscaloosa, State at State, at Tennessee, West Virginia at Morgantown. We also have to play Arkansas, UF and AU (though we do play them in Baton Rouge). I hate to sound like a homer but our SOS has to be #1.

We play
1 team that is top 25 caliber in Tennessee
4 teams that are top 20 caliber- UF, WV, State and AU.
1 team that is top 10 caliber- Arky
2 teams that are top 5 caliber- Oregon and Bama

I could care less. If you have 8 road games and play 13 straight weeks, Thats tougher than What LSU has to go through.

Finally, I grow weary of excuses for failing to appear in Atlanta
LSU has appeared in Atlanta as many times as any school in the SEC west and has many SEC titles as any school in the SEC West since 2005.
When you have done as well as any school in the SEC west and as good as any school in the SEC, but for Flor, why would LSU have to excuse anything???
Perhaps you should be thankful for what LSU has has done since 05...such as...the 2 west titles, the SEC title, having the most SEC wins of schools in the west, having a Top 5 ranking in winning percentage among BCS schools, a 28-1 OOC record, a 5-1 bowl record, and a NC since 05.
Just my opinion.

Well, if that happens, it's probably true. We play in the toughest division in football. We have Florida and Tennessee in the East (two of the contenders in the East). We play the best team in the Pac-12 and the best team in the Big East. Oh yeah, and you can only lose 1 game and have a legitimate shot at the NC.
So, my friend, if LSU goes 9-3 and 10-2, and fails to make Atlanta or NOLA, I think a big reason for that is the fact that our schedule provided for no "get healthy" games save 2.

colorado's is harder for them because they are a mediocre to bad team and will struggle against middling competition
for a top ten school LSU's schedule is harder because there are a few more probable highly ranked teams
Posted on 7/18/11 at 5:15 pm to 7thWardTiger
Laughable, but if people think that Preseason polls are stupid, then preseason schedule rankings are even worse. There is no way to tell how good certain teams will be until the season is over. I would imagine LSU's schedule at the end of the season will prove to be the toughest in the country.

yes, much better to rate it based on ranter rankings instead?
I think W/L percentage is the dumb part. That logic would say that a team who faces 5 teams who were 10-0 and 5 teams who were 0-10 has just as tough a schedule as a team who faces 10 teams who were 5-5. Both would have a schedule with a 50% winning percentage, although one is certainly "tougher".
If you are going to use last year's information, which is all that is available in the preaseason, you should weight the extremes properly.
