re: LSU runs all over UGA on Saturday

Georgia's played 1 good running team, 1, maybe 2 average ones, and 4 or 5 bad ones. 7 games into the season, that is pretty much what you will find with most teams. And given all that, Georgia comes out having given up the 3rd fewest yards of all 120 D1A teams.
Let me fix that for you...
quote:
We have one of the best DTs in the country and are very deep at the position with 2 great LBs right behind them.
I thought Atkins was one of the best DTs in the country going into the season as well, but he's been a little disappointing to be honest.
quote:
Whatever Georgia's other weaknesses (i.e. OL, pass rush), that our run defense is near the top of the list statistically shouldn't be much of a surprise.
It isn't, because you really haven't played the bulk of the good rushing teams left on your schedule (LSU, Florida, Georgia Tech). It will get worse after you play those types of teams.

OK - but I don't think Bama is soft up front, and by soft up front, I mean soft against the run. The stats don't tell the whole story, mainly because Bama has fallen apart in the second half. I think that is not a problem with the run defense. I think that is a problem with Saban's coaching.
Again, no one has said Alabama is soft up front or has a soft run defense. For the record.

The 2nd half is part of the game as well...and i know what you mean about saban's coaching...i hope we win another 7 games in a row

What Georgia games have you watched?
That is just really, really wrong. He has been awesome. With Rennie Curran as easily the 2 best players on our defense so far this year. He will be a first-team all-SEC DT and an automatic first round projection (although he says he's returning as of now).

So again, where are you thinking Georgia will end up... 5th, 10th, 20th, 100th?
And anyway, LSU is 51st and Florida is 43rd. Why won't you just say those are average teams as well?
This is really just silly stuff. You could do this with every single team.
LSU is 16th in run defense. Would you say your DL and run defense are soft? I certainly wouldn't. And what running teams has LSU played?
Just a really bad argument.

The same ones you have where Geno Atkins hasn't recorded a sack, pass defended (ie batted down) or QB hurry through 7 games. He does have 23 tackles which is nice for a DT but hardly zOMG beastly worthy (that's about 3 tackles a game). You can't sit here and say he hasn't been disappointing at least a bit considering he had 7.5 sacks last year (you'd be the only Dawg fan to say he hasn't been at least a little off this year). He's on pace this year for basically the same tackles as last year (41 last year vs. projected 43 this year), but has been a non-existent pass rush threat as opposed to last year.

Why do you constantly call this silly? I think its silly that you refer to stats instead of your performance against good running teams. I think a valid argument would be...Ok it was one game against bama..but it hasnt been a constant problem...but why continously refer to MEANINGLESS statistics? It is just my opinion that UGA was worshipped b/c of their skill players...If your fronts were SO good with those skill players you do not get beat by Bama? agreed?

Nobody knows. All I'm pointing out is you have the best rushing teams ahead of you from the majority of teams you have faced already.

LSU and Florida are 51st and 43rd in what? LSU has the #36 rushing offense and #16 rushing defense. Florida has the #29 rushing offense and the #15 rushing defense.

Hello! McFly? There's the rub.

OK.
And that too is true of just about every team. Georgia will likely give up more yards rushing... as will just about every other team. That's what happens as you get into the final 4-5 games of the schedule.

My bad. I was looking at the wrong column.

Because 7 games into the season, pointing to the quality of opponents, when on average Georgia's are no different than any other teams, is just a really bad argument. It's a point that does nothing to make your case because it is a point that could be made about every single team. This is just very basic logic.

And I think it's silly you completely dismiss the stats.

Our OL is terrible. Our pass rush is bad. Our #2-#3 CBs are bad. And we had a terrible first half in one game when our punter shanked a ball and our WR fumbled the ball to the other team, on top of those normal weaknesses.
That has absolutely zero to do with run defense.
You are really bad at this.

I wouldn't go that far. It's more of an outlier case for Georgia since you have played just 1 good rushing team (out of 7) and have 3 more to go (out of 5). Are there other teams that are like that too? Sure. Could you say it's like that for "just about every team" - no.

Dude we RAN the football RIGHT AT YOU in the Red Zone for 3-4 TD's...what in the hell does that have to do with your receivers fumbling the ball and your punter shanking the ball? i believe it is you who are bad at this..STATISTICS are for baseball...why "LOGICALLY" would you factor in how you play vs BAD teams when you are gaging how good you are? i dont understand that. If you are taking 10 classes and 9 of them are in English 101 and the other 1 is upper level Finance and you have 9 A's and an F in your only challenging class...that means you are smart? I simply do not factor in UK, Tulane, WKU, Ark, and Clemson b/c they are bad teams...however UGA and Ole Miss are good indicators...which is why people are not sold completely on Jeckyll (sp) and Hyde Alabama yet...Statistics are SO SO SO SO skewed in CF...heck OU puts up what nearly 700 yards last week but if they played LSU or Bama or even UGA they prob get 250-350 making them average 475-575...So damn OU is unstoppable because they average almost 500 yds

I sure hope we win by 2 TD's or more. If we do that then we'll have a fairly easy game next week and will most likely be in the top 8 at least going into the Alabama game!

Hate to argue w/Bama fan on an LSU board, but the point is this: Bama gained less than 130 yards all game. We gave you short fields the entire first half due to our screwups, turnovers, and, yes, good Bama play. However, run-over-us dominant you weren't. I was there. Hated every minute of it, but it's true. Yes, you scored on the ground against us (and in the air, too), but in the second half you gained a grand total of 39 yards on the ground. Oooh, so dominant.
The point was about your rushing game. You won the game The better team won that game. Congrats.

Man, you are all over the map and have a really hard time understanding simple logic chains and debate. (Pretty much what I would expect from an NFL fan.)
You said that the score meant you had to have dominated us with the run. The point about the punter, etc. was to explain that there were a lot of other factors explaining the scoring.
Anyway, like I say, I get why you hate statistics and numbers. You really, really struggle with this stuff, fwiw.

Yep, I think our dawgs will have to load the box to stop the Tiger running game which of course will create opportunities in our suspect secondary. I agree that the difference will be on both lines where we a very young and have had unprecidented injuries over the last several seasons. Georgia has excellent skill players but IMHO insufficient recruiting and injuries on both lines has limited our potetial. Should be a good game though if Stafford can make quick accurate throws because he likely won't have much time for anything else.
