I could not agree more.

Why don't they just have balloon stands right next to the gates while they're at it?

I like the idea of new gates and getting rid of all the chain link.
Tiger stadium is concrete and a giant block of it. Throwing stucco on it and brick to make it work looks cheap and aesthetically embarrassing and don't get me started on the Toy R' Us sign on top...

I mean seriously, who designs this and says this is awesome. It looks like 8th graders won a contest to design the stadium using Sims software. I think the bathrooms, ramps and seating area should be upgraded then move on to the seating addition. The entire west side looks so bad and should address that next....

You people need to get a grip. These pics look great and TS is in desperate need of a face lift. You can't let the Bama's of the world get 5 years ahead of you.

He told the architects to come up with a plan that didn't involve road work.

Well that sounds completely impossible. What does he want them to do? Build a tunnel through the foundation for stadium drive?

I don't see anyway stadium drive is completely untouched by this renovation.

I can't stand that "brick work" that they put on the west side. All the seams are the same, so it looks pre-fab (which I think it is) and it doesn't match any of the other parts of the stadium in color or style.

And the windows look horrible. The grates on the inside look like the stadium has fricking security bars on it. Awful.

This.

The fact that they completely covered the view of the original facade of the West side (unless you get right under it), with not even so much as a nod to the original architecture was abhorrent.

i am an architect in louisiana. that doesn't make my opinion any more meaningful than anyone elses, but i have to say im a bit let down by these proposed "improvements".

my main criticism is that the large yellow font "tiger stadium" is cheezy, and I really dislike the arched steel structures at the wrought iron gates outside - with the tiger logo in a circle at the top and a sloped canopy at the spring line of the arch. it is overkill and to me looks horribly unrefined.

and just so you know - i am not impossible to please. I think the look of the north facade with the new clean windows contrasted with the historic cast-in-place concrete (showing the actual imprints of the boards used to frame it all up) is magnificent. truly awesome look.

aside from seats/south endzone expansion, i think TAF should focus their efforts on refurbishing the "guts" of tiger stadium around the dorm area. improving traffic flow to and from bathrooms. etc.

the crap shown in these renderings is awful

Great perspective. I agree completely.

I really wonder who the frick comes up with this stuff. Are they actually college football fans? Do they attend LSU games on a regular basis? Have they visited any other respectable CFB stadiums?

Probably the same people building the God-awful new EJ Ourso college building with the huge bamboo rotunda.

Bama's stadium looks classy.

There's nothing classy about those drawings. It looks like a damn circus.

The best thing about it is the wrought iron fencing and gates around the stadium.

Holy shite. I was just looking at the same exact model the architect sent me.

The firm that came up with the design is located about 1000 miles away from LSU.

Then he lied to you. That project isn't out of the DD phase yet.

And that's ALL that area needed. Not the goofy arse archways. I just knocked $700K off the budget and made it classier looking.

Take away that TIGER STADIUM sign and save another $80K.

Take down the grates over the Stadium Club windows (put in place to provide shade inside, I think) and just tint the shite out of the glass windows.

I agree with your comments. One of the things I remember liking about the campus was the design elements modeled after a Roman city.

Huey P - Roman Bath, Foster Hall - Roman Basilica, Ampitheater, Quad shaped like a crucifix, terracotta tile roofs, Tiger Stadium modeled after the Colosseum.

The renovations and this new abomination destroys all of that. Kinda like the hideous library that they dropped in the middle of the quad back in the day. It's a shame we hire designers who royally screw up something great. (Toonces, Tiger Stadium). Oh well.

Guys, this project is still in the schematic design phase. More likely than not things will be changed.

Toonces was developed by some high priced ad agency in Arizona (or Midwest, whatever). From the looks of these renderings they're doing architecture now too.

Lately LSU has been a lot more lenient on what architects are allowed to do with the facade of buildings/structures. It used to be like Nazi Germany, but it seems that a few structures were given free reign.

Am I alone in being pissed that our stadium used to look like a place where gladiators fought to the death and now it's starting to look like a McMansion with fake stucco and brick that you'd build at the height of the housing boom?
