I know in the past the have mentioned they have accelerometers, etc in the equipment that they take readings from. Based on the past measurements they have mentioned, I think by fast they mean either top end or average speed throughout the practice. Just what I read into it, I don't have insider info.

They are working with a start up business owned by MIT mechanical and electrical engineers. It’s not accelerometers they using but optical devices like on our Xbox. The equipment is equipped with optical receptors mounted on the equipment that are a link in recording the players exercise behavior through the week.

They are recording things like work and power which are much better metrics than just the weight lifted.

ETA: with that information the LSU training staff can dial in player training requirements and Coach O can be informed to push them or dial it back.

I did not realize Jack Marucci had such a large role with the team. Can somebody explain a little bit about what he does?

I don't know him at all, but there's a lot I've picked up just following the team. As others have said he is the head trainer. He's the guy that collects all the performance data and makes recommendations regarding load to O and Moffit.

It's clear that at heart he's a nerd's nerd, a sports performance researcher. He's also a successful entrepreneur with the Marucci Bat Company. This gives him contacts throughout the sports industry and an affinity with other similar types that gives LSU access to some cutting edge stuff.

The monitoring equipment, the cooling trailer, the jugs machine talked about this summer came from his efforts, and there's probably more. Marucci at least facilitated Stringfellow's brain child of the locker bed. Probably designed and implemented the data collection to justify and maybe more.

Dude is a real asset to the university.

Thanks Tommy....

Quick question, is Derek P really the brains behind the great LSU hype videos?

Keep pumping those weights bro...

I never understood the jokes about Derek P... Coach O obviously hired him for a reason and he must be doing something right. Coach O has mentioned the great job he’s done several times without being asked. It’s obviously jealousy and envy because anyone would love to have his job. I know I would!

I also agree that Moffit and Marucci deserve tons of credit.
