First thought: Saahdiq is much more of a prototypical OT size then I had thought. He could make himself a lot of money this week if he interviews well.

OT Saahdiq Charles

Height: 6-4 1/8
Weight: 321
Hand: 10
Arm: 33
Wingspan: 80 3/8

I know the hand size thing is being blown out of proportion but this is still unbelievable to me.

Remember when a 300# lineman was considered a monster?

Might as well put guard next to his name with a wingpsan that short.

Crazy right?

Years ago when this info wasn’t readily available, everyone thought hand size & arm length were relative to your height.

You soon learn that elite athletes are a different breed. Lloyd cushenberry’s wing span for example on a 6’3” human is other worldly. Drew Brees & Russell Wilson have hands well over 10”, and they are just normally built everyday Joes.

You start to compile the data & you understand why these freaks find their way to the court & field.

They don’t really care about wingspan for OL, it’s more about arm length, tho the 2 obviously correlate a little.

33” isn’t ideal but there are plenty of good OTs that play at that length.

Below 33” you are in guard territory

33" would be among the shortest of all offensive linemen measured up last year, not just OTs. Lot of guys in the 34-35" range. It's certainly not a "good" OT number. It's definitely an interior number they see.

Yeah he's got better OT measurables than Charles by a decent bit too. Not that he's going to play that, but the guy has a nice build to him.

Holy shite that wingspan. 7’ at 6’3.

No I know how he manages leverage so well. Motherfrickers can’t get hands on him.

I didn’t say it was a good number. I said there are plenty of good OTs with arms in that length range.

All these guys have sub 34” arms

Joe Staley
Duane brown
Jason peters
Joe Thomas
Trent Williams
Mitchell Swartz
Lael Collins
Bryan Bulaga

To name a few

6’3” OTs are much more rare than a guy with 33” arms lol

Are any of them 33" flat. Again at 33" flat you start getting pigeon hole'd into interior player. A lot of those guys you mentioned are closer to 34" than 33". I bet a lot of them have greater than 80" wingspans too.

Just pointing out what NFL teams do, at 33" flat, he would have been in 46th out of 57 offensive linemen in last year's draft in terms of arm length.

Yep. What really made Koufax and Pedro Martinez so dominant was that they had HUGE hands:

In this pic, Kershaw is like 3-4 inches taller, but look at Koufax's hand

I don’t disagree it’s on the low side. But so are guys like Jason peters, Bulaga, Jake Matthews. & Lael that are all within two 8ths of 33”.

You are talking a 10% tile athletic measure by Charles vs a 12%’er & 14%’er.

They are all low but they all get by.

Even Mitchell Schwartz at 33.5” is at 23% tile. He’s a stud,.

Funny when people want to split hairs over 1/8” (Charles’ case) but not in Joe Burrows case lol

I thought he was too cause I thought he was closer to 6’3” 300. Not so sure now.
