I hope the people who hate on JH heard the Miss. St. play by play man the other night he absolutely sucked. Said Tenn was in man d when they were in a match up zone. Yall really need to listen to other teams announcers and then talk.
And BTW Hanagriff is horrible.

As many mistakes as the man makes n his broadcasts,
IMO, broadcasts are a bit bland and something is missing without him.
Jim is the aura of LSU sports radio and akin to candlelight for a romantic dinner.
Like boiled crawfish beckons beer, LSU sports radio needs Hawthorne.

No kidding!
Heard an SEC guy one night and it was, "we have the ball" and "we are going to the right". Kinda limits the name mistakes when everything think is "we".

Another was big on, "its a gapping hole" and the runner gets 2 yds.
If only they were as talented as us here, then they would make no mistakes just like us.

Jim can call my LSU games anytime.

I think the reason so many ridicule him is b/c they have only heard him.
He calls out the players in Basketball for each team. In FB he calls out the formations and gives you a visual of what they are running.
Any guy who has announced as many games as he has will have mistakes.I heard play by play from Tenn and UGA announcers and one of them would actually be saying "give him six" as the fg unit was setting up for the EP.
Some of my best LSU memories are JH's calls ...especially in the late 80's and early 90's in baseball.

i agree. His ridiculously terrible announcing skills should be used only for a sport where LSU is terrible - basketball.

Uhh I have listened to countless announcers traveling across the country and I can say way more often than not how come LSU cant have a guy this good. Especially frustrating when hearing from a game from a school like Cinncinati or East Carolina and knowing that this guy would be a hgue upgrade for LSU!

In all seriousness, Mr. Hawthorne has done a pretty good job since he started broadcasting LSU games in the early 80's. The man has traveled many many miles and has handled all three major sports calls. It seems like he has been underpaid for all of the time he spent rehearsing for all of the games, learning the players names on both teams..etc.
When you have broadcasted over 3000 games, there are going to be mistakes made. Maybe Jim needs to really think about retiring but he has a very good job. I know Jim is 68 years old. He has raised a nice family and has had a death in the family over a week ago. We should remember that Mr. Hawthorne has another life outside of broadcasting game. He has always been very cordial to me as has his family. I salute Mr.Jim for all of his devotion to the LSU family.
