Lacrosse is a great sport. So are equestrian and sailing. I wish LSU would put more emphasis on them.

Kick some lacrosse arse, Tigers.

Oh, please. NCAA's 1000x better than MCLA, it's not even a contest.

But still, lacrosse is a great sport, at any level (HS or above), especially in person. Hopefully, some people will go watch the Tigers that have never seen lax before and become appreciative of the game.

There's nothing like pounding nattys, playing LAX and getting dome from slam pieces.

the lacrosse program has come a LONG way since it's original days in the 70s, especially recently since I played & under their current leadership.
Coach Nick Joslyn was a teammate of mine & is a great leader for the program. Anyone interested should definitely go check out the game & show their LSU support.

The top tier NCAAs are better than the top tier MCLAs, but the top MCLAs usually beat the middle NCAA D1s... Keep your eyes on the Michigan vs Bellarmine rematch this weekend.

Fwiw, U of Texas is playing FSU this weekend in New Orleans at Pan Am Stadium in City Park. 7:00PM on Saturday. Huge game, with loads of NCAA caliber talent.

Thanks for the info on MCLA. I was surprised that teams like Michigan weren't NCAA.

LAX was a club sport at my college where I played middie. Come to think of it, most of our guys were either from Michigan or Pennsylvania. Anyway, you definitely have to be in shape to play this sport. It was a great time but not easy to pick up.

Calling Bellarmine the mid-level of college lacrosse is like calling UTEP the middle level of college football because they went 500 in a lousy conference.

Though they did beat Ohio St.

I'd say Bellarmine did pretty good considering their distractions.

1) Michigan is on a whole different level than basically every other MCLA team, even the other top ones. There's a reason they're making the jump to the NCAA next year.

2) Bellarmine, while not an awful team, is not middle. They are below average.

3) It was an exhibition for Bellarmine (and Michigan). We have no idea what they were looking for in that game. They might have been experiementing different offensive/defensive sets, rotating a lot of players, etc. College teams have beaten Team USA before in exhibitions. You have to take it with a grain of salt.

Except for the very worst (i.e. bottom 10) NCAA teams, I'd say all the rest, if they were trying would beat every MCLA team, except maybe Michigan, and all the upper 50% would beat them, too.

Exactly.

Three years ago, this would have been something. OSU's no longer an impressive win, ever since Breschi left for UNC. One of my HS coaches played for OSU under Breschi, and still keeps up with the program, and with some of the stories I've heard, I can't even tell you how dysfunctional the program is right now.

Can you back that up? I know the AD is behind the jump, but I've only heard rumors they were trying to make the jump for the 2013 or 2014 seasons.

Cmon man. They may be better than 95% of the MCLA, but ASU, Chaptown, CSU, Oregon, BYU, and the like all play them close. LINK

Big touche there. You're 100% correct on that

You very well could be right, but I'm not convinced that ASU, Chaptown, FSU, etc couldn't at least play Villanova, Lafayette, Penn, etc in a close game.

I had heard next year (2012). Even if it's 2013 or 14, they're still the only team right now on the verge of doing it.

"Whole different level" might have been extreme, but they are clearly the top club program in the country.

You're right, they probably could.

But this statement of yours:

quote:

Lots of debate over whether NCAA talent is better than MCLA.

is completely ridiculous. Let's compare the WAC in football to the SEC. The WAC's top teams (Boise, Nevada) would likely destroy the worst SEC teams, beat the middle SEC teams, and compete (but lose) with the top SEC teams, potentially. But top to bottom the SEC is way better.

Let's compare the MCLA in lacrosse to the NCAA. The MCLA's top teams (Michigan, Chapman, ASU) would likely beat the worst NCAA teams, compete (but lose) with the middle NCAA teams, and get DESTROYED by the top NCAA teams. Top to bottom, the NCAA is way, way, way better.

The statement "Lots of debate over whether SEC (football) talent is better than WAC" is more accurate and truthful than "lots of debate over whether NCAA (lacrosse) talent is better than MCLA", that's how far out there that statement is.

I know, I was just taking a cheap shot... because it was funny.

You don't need to talk to me about dysfunctional.. I root for Maryland. The kings of falling just short.

To bring this back to LSU, the difference between good lax and bad lax is how long the ball is on the ground. Club lax has really long periods in which no one can get possession. Still, I might try and make a game when they come to Texas.

Easy killer, the next sentence was

quote:

For the most part, NCAA is better

And truth is, there is a lot of debate out there in Internetland as to whether or not the MCLA can hang with the NCAA. My stance is the top MCLA teams can hang, but NCAA is better.

As for LSU - they're definitely not ready to play an NCAA team, but they're what we have locally, and I intend on supporting them.

Hutch,
Thanks for posting this. I went to LSU Sports.net for game info and found nothing. Googled and of course TD.com came up! Should have just come here first. We'll be at the game. Cousin's son plays for Baylor, but still, Geaux Tigers!
