...LSU Basketball....hey y'all, things are looking up - we're just one great recruiting class and 4 - 5 top level players away from competing in the SEC...

Yeah, it's just going to take a little time. It's disappointing with all the vets we have, though.

No, most are closer than that. SEC blows in b-ball.

I think LSU will get there very soon.
I will be rooting for you all the way in the SEC this year! Good luck Tigers!

No reason we can't be a basketball school. Don't need consistent fan attendance to be successful (see track above) and we have the recruiting ground and the resources.

Let's go do it!!

LSU will be good, it will just take Coach Johnson time to get everyone on the same page and bring in his type of recruits.

That said, the team this year will be extremely competitive and should make a strong push for the west title, regardless of today's result.

I agree West Coast. I mean if you're looking at this game before the year, does anyone honestly count this as a win.

Most everyone would consider a split with the team favored to win the West reasonable and that's what I think will end up happening.

LSU will contend for the West until the end. Book it. The SEC is down, we have limitations, but we also have some good players and some experience.

I can't disagree. The two kids he has signed in the early period may well end up being good long term program guys but I don't see either being immediate impact guys.

And that's what we need. We lose Thornton, Garret, and CJ.

Taz and Spencer won't have much experienced help at all next year. It's going to be pretty tough I'm afraid. Patience please.

I think Trent's a solid coach from what I've seen to this point but ultimatley recruiting will make or break him. Let's see wht he can do.

Trent will get it done. He won in a proven league...not Crowley High or Samford.

Our previous coach was criticized for binging in star impact players who might only stay a year or two. He should have recruited "program players" they said.

Who should we believe?

I tend to agree but just playing Devil's Advocate he did take over pretty established programs at both Nevada and Stanford and honestly inherited some pretty good teams both times.

I think he has a good enough team to compete in this league this year, but he's going to have to recruit a bit better than he has thus far with us to get where we all want to be.

I think he will, but what I think won't make it so.

I've been seeing your posts in the hoops threads lately and I was curious as to what your thoughts are on the Brady firing/Johnson hiring?

It's obvious that you do enjoy basketball (or you wouldn't read and post in these threads) but it's hard to get your take when your posts are short responses, quotes and smileys. Just curious as to what your stance is.

All I really meant tiger20 was that year two is going to be tough and going to require patience. The reality is we will not have the talent next year.

But if we want to compete next year we'll have to get a player that can play and contribute significantly in the post against SEC competition right away. I don't know if there's a guy out there like that. Doesn't need to be a one and done guy. Maybe a Jabari Smith type.
