There is one in college basketball. It’s called NET rankings. LSU is ranked #2

Dude no freaking lie there. What they’ve done since the whole rape cover up deal with Art Briles is nothing short of incredible. If they can lock Aranda up long term, they’ll be in competition to win the Big 12 and even fight for a playoff bid every year.

Can someone explain the NET formula? Seems weird. Great that LSU is 2 or 3.

But how can they be ahead of Alabama? LSU has 2 games against Q1 & Q2 teams. Alabama has 5. LSU has 2 games against Q4. Alabama has zero. Alabama beat #4 and #8.

LSU's best win is #31.

NET has a per 100 possessions efficiency component. It’s basically half RPI and half efficiency.

I don’t know who this guy is but you can give him a thumbs down for his rankings at the link. I suggest everyone blow him up just because…

I think the big thing that is driving LSU's ranking is in addition to not having a loss on their record, LSU has the 3rd highest average scoring margin/margin of victory in the nation. The NET gives credit for margin of victory...but only up to 10 points (regardless of how many you actually win by). In 9 games LSU has only had one game where the score was within single digits (Penn St.).

If you look at the teams currently ahead of LSU in NET, Arizona and Baylor, you'll also see those are the only two teams that have a higher average scoring margin than LSU. Couple that with LSU high efficiency ratings (KenPom and BPI both have them in the top 15) and I think that is where the high NET ranking is coming from. Of course, any loss right now would probably plummet the ranking.

And for those continuing to bitch about the schedule, LSU actually has a much stronger adjusted SOS than both Baylor and Arizona right now

Arizona undervalued currently. Same for LSU, Auburn, and Iowa State.

Gonzaga, Alabama, and Texas are all overvalued.

Also overvalued: Florida (not shown).
