Andy Brandi, one of the most successful coaches in the history of collegiate tennis, along with his son, Chris, have been named co-head coaches of the LSU men's tennis program, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced on Wednesday.

As the head women's tennis coach at Florida from 1985-2001, Andy Brandi led the Gators to three NCAA National Titles and to six National Team Indoor Championships. He also guided the Florida women to 14 Southeastern Conference titles in his 17 years as head coach of the Gators.

During his 17-year run as Florida's head women's coach, the Gators posted a 460-43 overall record, which included three undefeated seasons and three others years in which they lost only one match. Andy Brandi's Florida teams had a 114-match regular-season winning streak and overall winning streaks of 62 and 53 matches.

Press Release

Impressive resume and seems like an elite hire. First the Sells and now the Brandis. Not bad, Joe.

Say what you will about Joe and his Big 3 hires, but he sure knows how to find a goat in the non revenue sports

Andy Brandi sounds handy and dandy. Glad he didn't name his kids Randy and Sandy.

Yea, I like seeing us develop and compete in the Olympic sports. I watch all sports and naturally, I would support any and all that LSU competes with. Hope to see them restore the men back to Top 10's and ultimate a natty.

Coach Brandi is a strong coach, but the men's and women's games are very different. I will be interested to see how he transitions...

What happened to him at Florida?

According to his profile, he left UF back in 2001 to join IMG Tennis Academy as Executive Director.

It's not that uncommon for college tennis coaches to leave for other tennis related positions. In fact the UVA men's coach, who is a total badass, is just leaving for some USTA position.

Andi was inducted into the hall of fame at Florida in 2006, so he clearly didn't really do anything controversial

Question: will we ever be good in swimming and diving?

Answer: not til we get rid of the 35 year old natatorium.

I wish we'd just drop swimming and diving and go niche with something like lacrosse or equestrian, or really anything but swimming. We'll never put up the millions for a new natatorium and even then it's an uphill battle

Niki is over paid
The Sells haven't really broken through and won anything (although I will admit the program is stronger now)
Torina has definitely improved the program, but also hasn't won anything. Was also a backup plan after yet another frick up

I'm not sure 'goat' is the correct term

Are you that dense? Did you think I really believe the Sell's and Torina are the best in their sport's history?

They're phenomenal young coaches and rising stars. There's not much else you can ask for. Also Nikki was a THE big hire at the time. No one could have predicted she'd be this lazy recruiting.

It's okay to give alleva an ounce of credit sometimes

And hire a legitimate college coach that is well connected in the swimming world and not an age group coach with hardly any experience or connections at the top level.

Because everyone goes to the WCWS 4 out of their first 6 years. So every softball coach in the nation except the Oklahoma coach should be fired I guess. Bertman didn't win it all his first 4 trips to Omaha either. I guess he sucked too.

Then why would you use that term? I'm all for giving Joe credit, but these small sports hires are marginal wins at best and completely over shadowed by his massive failures in basketball, which is supposed to be his best sport.

And if he's really trying to improve the culture of smaller sports at LSU, why do Fran Flory and Brian Lee still have jobs?

ETA: sorry if I'm not super pumped about a dude who has never coached men before and the last women he coached were in 2001

It's just a fun hyperbolic reference, not in the literal sense they're the best in their entire sport's history. Just think about that for a second

Also I said "Say what you will about Joe's Big 3 hires", meaning he's made some bad hires in the big 3. Trent was a nice hire at the time, and Johnny was political. I'm an O skeptic, but he technically hasn't fricked anything up yet.

I also said "give him an ounce of credit" meaning let's not build a statue of him for his non revenue hires

He just replaced 3 coaches this season alone. Tell me where to place my bets that Lee is fired, while Flory and Bensen "resign" next season

Goddam at the ignorance some of you people have. If "Joe had his way", Patrick Murphy would be here...a guy who was considered a top 3 coach in the nation when Joe hired him and who won it all in 2012. Hate on Alleva all you want, but it's not his fault Murphy flaked out and went back to Bama

If alleva got his way Candreas or Murphy would be the softball coaches, consensus top 5 coaches in the game.

I would label alleva a highly functioning retard if he didn't have those two coaches on the top of his list
