Lsu really should be 6-6 except they were able to pull 3 wins out of their asses at Mississippi State, Uga, and Arkansas.

By that same logic, we could be 11-1 if we used better clock management against Ole Miss and if we had gotten the interception called properly against Bama.

Despite poor offensive production, we were still better (as far as record) than all other schools

I would have felt better about it if we has beaten OM and not backed into the 3rd spot through their loss to an inferior team. Also, the near loss to Arky and UGA (given the way the year turned out) does not speak to a lot of seperation.

The point I guess im trying to make is that the players are the reason lsu is 9-3 and not the coaching scheme.

What I don't understand is everyone wants to say we "almost" lost to this team or that team, yet Bama and UF "almost" lost to a few teams as well and they are praised for being able to make the comeback or pullout the win. Why the double standard on this?

We did exactly that. Next year we expect 11 wins minimum. I believe we will achieve that.

Yeah reaching for the stars there...

Lsu had a lot of those close games where people didn't know who was gonna win. An easy case of Almost losing is the Mississippi state game where lsu had an amazing goalline stand to win the game. Lsu had to have an amazing run by charles scott in the final minute of the game to take the lead.

It's true this could have been a 5 loss season, it was also just as close to being an 11 win season. People need to learn the difference between being happy and satisfied.

Well said jmath23lsu.

I see your point. The offensive losses seem more significant, but Riley is the only defensive player I see as a true loss. Odd considering how each side of the ball "ranked"

Don't get me wrong im thrilled were 9-3 but do you truly feel the way lsu played this year that they were the 3rd best team in the sec. The only real dominating performance against a good team was auburn. You don't have the feeling like in 2006 when your like damn we could of been #1 team in the sec instead your like phew thank god were #3 in the sec this year.

EVERY college team has to replace players yearly. Comes with the territory.

Didn't LSU fans say the same thing LAST year, that there were no significant losses? That LSU would reload, I wonder how that worked out.

Considering the starters being lost from BOTH sides of the ball there will be an adjustment period as the games go on. Sure the players behind are highly rated but so were the players starting.

People act as though the players rated behind are that much better than the starters and they will just slide into starting and actually perform better. I guess there is always hope that the unknown is better than the known.

Not every team replaces half their starters on both sides of the ball every year. LSU is being hit hard this year by seniors leaving.

Defense Difinites
Alem - rushed himself out of plays all year
Alexander - seemingly always hurt, just sayin
Woods - one year guy, really
Coleman - solid player, but excited to see Minter and Baker
Cutrera - backup guy
Riley - good player, will be missed
Hawkins - ehh
McCray - ehh

Sure, there will always be adjustments when people leave, but I am just not too worried about the defense where most of those guys are concerned

I am worried about the defense, mainly because at the end of the year everyone put almost 400 yards on this unit. Next year with the youth will they be able to force the same amount of turnovers? Will they be disciplined enough to stay in their gaps?

The secondary will be the strongest unit next season if everyone stays. While LB and D-Line will pretty much look completely different. Players behind them are young and 4 or 5*, yet these guys were 4 or 5* also. Like I said no one knows what these young guys can do, everyone just hopes it is better than what the current guys do.

With that amount of losses and the schedule 8-4 is my prediction for next season with 2011 LSU winning the West.

We almost lost to Ole Miss in 2003, but we put up 50 on Arky the next week and were dominant in many games throughout the year.
Bama struggled a couple of times this year, but they looked like a championship team many times too.

We looked like crud all year long. We almost lost to MSU despite having a defensive and a special teams TD and the game didn't seem like a fluke, especially in retrospect. It looked like LSU being LSU.

Guess that's why I am not too worried about those we are losing (except for Riley, and possibly Coleman) and optimistic about the younger guys stepping in. I get what you are saying. We just see it differently, nothing wrong with that.

I agree with you on the fact I would be more worried about the offense. I think they both take a step back next year since the majority of teams in SEC are getting better.

The fact we have UNC early in the season worries me because LSU will not be able to make the same mistakes they did against Washington. UNC is a better team with more depth and a better coach.

I wish they had McNeese and ULM early to work out some kinks.

Most teams lose this many players/starters/contributors they are discussing following year as rebuilding.
Not many expect an actual improvement from the teams, although many who are predicting 11-1 and SEC West are same ones who predicted it before start of this season.
