but on this forum even the most critical were far more positive about the overall final record than what is now being pushed.

Thank you

It's simply true.

Most guys who have been critical like me were in the 8 to 9 win range. There were a few who I think decided to give a solid "frick you" to guys like Ree who were pumping all off season long and said, "Well...since Ed is so fantastic, and Ensminger is the best play-caller in America, and Burrow will be a Heisman contender than it's 10 wins." But...some may have been in that camp honestly.

Personally...I had us at 9-3. Full disclosure, I never made that prediction on the board anywhere. not because I did not want to stand behind it, but because I hate predicting losses for LSU. Call it a fanboy thing, but I don't like doing it...despite being labeled negative by idiots. But in private and among friends and family, I was saying 9-3 with a possibility of a loss to A&M making us 8-4. Only difference is that saw our losses coming on the road to AU, at home to UGA and to BAMA. I was never concerned with Miami or UF, so those were odd to me.

Finally...many of us in this camp did not even flip out and call for the wheels to come off even after the Troy loss last season! Why? Same reason you suggest in your OP...it's damn hard to lose 6 at LSU at this point with what we have in terms of talent. I never EVER thought we'd tank. I was worried we'd coast...and accept it.

Which is my biggest issue with the state of the program. Two things are easy to deal with. Huge success and huge failure. Both are obvious and both have obvious results. One provides for a raise and extension for the coach at the helm and the other gets him fired. Determining when we're treading water is MUCH harder though. It's why it was hard to see it near the end of Miles' tenure, and it's what we were trying to move past with his firing. My fear is that we keep treading water, because where Miles' at least had skins on the wall which made it hard to make the call, Orgeron seems to have something more powerful...local ties. It's going to be incredibly hard to remove him if he stays at the 8, 9, 10 win range even never getting to Atlanta. And getting back to Atlanta and genuinely competing for titles is WHY we fired Miles and WHY we hired him.

Link them. Should be very easy to do, and you'll earn the respect of many here for calling them all out.

I know of one off the top of my head for sure. But, don't remember many others. But, it wouldn't surprise me.

In the last 18 years LSU hasn't won less than 8 games.

they can’t because they know most people here predicted 8-10 wins.

"LSU, which was 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the SEC last year for a third-place finish, has been picked to finish as bad as 6-6 this season and as good as 8-4 in various publications as the Tigers lost six starters on offense and six on defense from last season." - Preseason SEC media days report

LINK

So basically, no-one in the media from SEC media days thought we'd do better than 8-4 and at least some of them were thinking 6-6 based of the huge lack of returning production and probably a lack of confidence in the staff as well.

Not sure why you're keeled over laughing bc you're an idiot if you think last year and all the years prior had anything to do with our record this season. Just ask FSU how their last two seasons have gone only a few years removed from a National Championship and while also holding the longest bowl streak (well, until this after this year) and playing in a shite conference at that.

LSU isn't immune to that either.

Not sure where I said that, so keep putting words in my mouth.

I had us losing to Georgia, Alabama, @Auburn, and one or two of Miami, @A&M, @Florida, and Miss St... so I was hopeful for 8-4 with our schedule before the year. Obviously Auburn and Miami ended up being mediocre but Florida was a little better than people thought, so 8-4 or 9-3 was about right for this year after adjusting.

Some people didn’t have faith that Coach O could maintain the team after some particularly bad games last year. 6-6 is a bit hyperbolic but I was definitely in an 8-4 or even 7-5 worst case camp, and admittedly we were a play at Auburn away from 8-4 this year

We were also a play and last minute drive away from being 11-1...

I picked 6-6z. Lake of proven talent on offense and what looked like a pretty hard schedule... plus I was not sure how O was gonna handle it.
