I'd argue that a post on the West Virginia University facebook page from the Administrator, which is monitored and controlled by University Officials, is more reliable than a media outlet.

why do WVU people

this is the problem I know is coming. I don't know a single person on this earth that would do that. There are millions of "WVU people,"most of them the nicest people you'll ever meet, and they will forever be associated with these fricktards that aren't true Mountaineers

Kinda sounds like when a white fella walks through West Charlotte and gets beat up....people on both sides say, "WHat the hell was he doing, walking alone in a bad part of town?" I am equating Morgantown on a Saturday to West Charlotte.
And that makes you an idiot. There is a difference between walking through a bad part of town late at night and going to a football game.

And the same can be said for LSU. I don't know a single person that would do this either in BR, but it doesn't mean it can't happen.

Same can really be said for any fanbase. I'd bet 99.999999% of Dodgers fans have never even thought about sending a Giants fan to ICU, let alone even act upon it.

They did what was reported. Just got a pic of Marcus texted to me from his wife in hospital.

The only question is whether they were targeted for being LSU fans. They were not easily ID as LSU fans...at least until the guys looked into car.

These punks were drunk, pissed off and looking for a fight.

It could have happened anywhere, but it did happen.

Man is pulled from car and beaten by crowd in Morgantown... clearly the work of a redneck mob, I've seen all I need to see, guilty.

Did no one else see the parallels?
The Shady's incident? Yeah, and there is also a Marcus Mason from Missouri who got similarly beaten in 2005. Unfortunately the intimation at parallels falls shy of fact.

Fact: The Mason's are real people, with a real address, with real facebook sites, and really expecting a child in 4mos, and who sustained an assault following the game.

I took time to look this stuff up because, frankly, I doubted the story too. Sucks that it was not a hoax.

I won't rush to judgment on the validity of the story or the injuries of the people involved. This story has some truth to it and more details will come out publicly.

I would say that this is a few individual(s) and does not represent the entire Mountaineer fan base. I had the pleasure of working in that area of the country for a period of time and enjoyed a game in Morgantown.

The fans from WVU who came to this site before the game were polite, respectful, and represented their university well.

Why does this make me an a-hole?

If I see something posted by the admins on the LSU Facebook (which is operated by affiliates of LSU), I would give it WAY more weight than a breaking story on WAFB or WBRZ. All the people trying to discredit the story are just looking for a reason to go back and say "I told you so" if the story doesn't ever break.

To the OP:

LSU fans, of all institutions, recognizes the following:

1) Every school has arseholes, so even if this is confirmed, it is a rare incident, and we know that this is NOT indicative of the WVU fanbase. From all accounts i have heard from those attending the game. WVU was clearly a great group of fans, exhibiting good sportsmanship and friendship and loving college football.
2) The police reports are the only thing, and oficially-confirmed ones at that, that anyone should pay attention to. There are 2 sides to every story.
3) If this did happen, the best thing for everyone to do is root for justice and good fortune for the victim(s).

Again, LSU knows how stories and isolated events can brand a fan base unjustly.

Sorry this story exists, but WVU fans in the aggregate are not accountable for this isolated event, if it did happen.

so because the web page for WV said

quote:

About The official fan page of West Virginia University. As the state’s flagship land-grant, research university, WVU opens opportunities to scholars around the world.

should have led me to believe it was run by the university and university staff?

I'm missing the part about getting dragged from a car while leaving a designated University parking spot.

How does that equate to a white guy taking a nighttime stroll solo through the Charlotte Bottoms?

Every company/organization page is called a "fan page" when Facebook created them, to view the page you had to click a link to become a "fan".
