From 13. It’s not totally bad news. Win on Saturday and we are likely at least 13-14.

Not a terrible loss. A win over Tennessee would pretty much erase it.

Just like Kentucky's situation when they lost to us. Lose mid-week, beat Tennessee on Saturday and all is right with the world. LSU can get right back into 1st place on Saturday.

While everyone (myself included) would love to see LSU win the SEC, that's really immaterial to the big picture (the NCAAT). Conference standings and records aren't even on the "team sheets" distributed to the selection committee.

With that in mind, while it sucks to drop a home game you "should" have won, if the loss somehow helps them beat Tenn., then this week will be a net positive for LSU in terms of NCAAT seeding.

The loss didn't really hurt. People just overreacted.

Win out and no one will remember

That's not completely true. All losses "hurt". Some just hurt more than others and last night wasn't a horrible loss. Still, it something that could be the difference between a 3 and 4 seed. That's how tightly grouped the teams are near the top of any NCAAT bracket. For instance, the losses to FSU and Houston, while not "bad", hurt because that is the biggest knock against LSU...they didn't beat any really good teams in the OOC schedule.

Last night's loss wont go away, but it can be significantly mitigated by beating Tenn and tacking on another road win (preferably two) the rest of the way.

I disagree.
Winning an SEC title in any sport is huge.

And winning the SEC naturally improves the big picture chances.

No question it's a good accomplishment. But it doesn't factor into NCAAT seeding. For example: Mich St. won the Big 10 (reg season) last year. Purdue was tied for 2nd. Yet, Purdue was seeded higher than MSU in the NCAAT. Also, Purdue was tied with OSU in the conf. standings. However, even though they had the exact same conf. record, Purdue was a #2 while OSU was a #5 seed

You never like to lose...particularly home games. But if you HAD to lose one this week, you take a loss to UF and a win over Tenn. ever single time. Not because of the impact on conf. standings, but because a win over Tenn. is much more impactful than a home win over UF

Meh. I want to win the SEC so we can have another year to add to the SEC champions banner. If we accomplish nothing else this year SEC champs would be a great year.

It would definitely factor in the seedings.

If we win the conference it means we win more games. Winning the conference thus improves your seeding just as winning the SECT does.

Yer not jes woofin'. It's not unreasonable to believe that could happen, given the recent history of this team's performance.

The reality if that LSU has played above and beyond expectations all season long, and they're a good team, but not yet among the elite fleet. A win Saturday vs Tennessee may go a long way toward nullifying my last statement.

My point is that this loss isn't something that can't be overcome.

The gave vs Tennessee is the most important of the regular season.

I felt uneasy, even a touch queasy bout the Florida game ever since Saturday when the Gators blew out Bama on their home court. Hadn't thought about the Gators all season, except how disappointing they were, but we now know that team and Mike White are on a mission.

I still am going out on a limn, and say that if the Tigers win Saturday, they'll win out the regular season games.

Winning the SEC Championship is a major accomplishment. It is done over 18 games. The NCAA Ty is one loss and you're out.

To me, LSU would have to make the Final Four before winning in the NCAA Ty is greater than winning the SEC title.

The question I have is whether or not we have maxed out.

Have our guys peaked? Have teams figured us out? Are we getting worn down?

Or on the other hand will we continue to improve? Does Wade have some tricks up his sleeve? Will we overcome the loss of Sims and Edwards?

Our guys could just settle or they can keep pushing hard.

Me? I think we have not peaked, Wade is still coaching us up and we have some gas in the tank still.

Waters had a terrible game. Nearly 60 games of past history says he likely won't have that bad of a game again this season. The team also uncharacteristically struggled from the FT line. It's hard to imagine them having too many such a performances again, if any.

But, I also think at this point they are what they are on defense. A team capable of playing good defense in spurts, but an approach and execution that isn't going to lead to a full 40 minutes of good defense.

Assuming that Waters gets right back to normal, they've shown they can overcome inconsistent defense more often than not with good offensive play/rebounding. But that's going to remain the concern (as it has been most of the season) the rest of the way. They can't afford to struggle too long on offense.

If we could win the conference regular season title by ourselves we would also move into second place all-time by ourselves behind UK. Right now— Tenneesee is tied with us with I believe 11. If they win a non-shared title they will move ahead. If we share the title with Tenn we are still tied for second.

We do need a reliable third option in our half court sets besides Waters and Reid.
