Outright. OK. It was not a split title.
Done deal dude, that was 6 years ago, WTF?
But since you mentioned it...
my father's best friend took his son to see USC because he was thinking about going to school there. They took a tour of the school, and the tour guide of course at one point took them by the USC football trophy case. After she made her spiel, my father's friend asked her where the crystal football from the 2003 championship was. She looked at him confused as if she didn't know WTF, said I dunno, and moved the tour group onward.
This is how clueless USC fans are.

I dunno if you noticed,
BUT THE NCAA DOESN'T AWARD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TO FBS TEAMS
hence their opinion is irrelevant.

I could swear that this is a championship trophy as well.
It is a championship trophy, much like the SEC Championship trophy is a championship trophy.
It is not the NATIONAL championship trophy.

Ctually for about a year after the BCS (BCS.org) called 2003 a "split decision with LSU winning the coach championship and USC the AP".
But only on of those two teams won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. usc won the Rose Bowl Championship, quite an accomplishment, but not a NATIONAL championship GAME.

Completely different argument.

If true, real class right there.

I heard some reference to winning "outright" in one of the Bowl game broadcasts. I really don't know that that means. Every year there are dozens of groups who declare a national champion, including the individual computer polls, the sportswriters, the BCS, the Sporting News, the Dunkle Index, and just about everyone else who reports on or rates college football. If I recall correctly, the year that USC won the national championship, one of these computer groups may have even had LSU on top at the end of the year, for some strange set of circumstances.
Under the current system, you win the BCS, you win the National Championship.
Under the current system, you win the BCS, you win the National Championship.

True and for some strabge reason USC was atop some poll/puter in 2002

2003 was not the first nor will it be the last split in voting who is number one.
Every year that the BCS exists, at the BCS game, on TV and otherwise, LSU is listed as the winner in 2003. It is a mere footnote with AP winner USC. This does not denigrate the AP. Each year the AP list its winners and USC is the winner.
It is not a big deal. We won the BCS, USC won the AP. Which do you prefer?

For some reasons, many many LSU fans will never get over 2003, not in 6 years, not in 40 years. You can rest assured that if TD.com is around, it will repeatedly be brought up (see USC 1979). Many seem to think USC's AP NC, somehow detracts, or as you said denigrates, their own BCS NC from the same year.

Can't believe my post withstood dissection by LSUTANGERINE, and appeared to withstand scrutiny. (I think)

I agree with you, All the schools and coaches voted to go with this method of crowning the NC every year until a better system is voted on to take it's place. So, for USC to say they won the NC in 2003 they are contradicting themselves. They like everyone else voted that the BCS will be the only Championship game then this is the only true Champion of any given year. If this is not so then every year there is a split champion and no one can claim it as such and Bama and Texas is not playing for the NC either. JMHO!

Here is where many are mistaken. What was specifically agreed upon is that the winner of the BCS CG would be voted coaches' poll NC. There was no agreement to disband the AP or other polls. No agreement to bt the ONLY NC. Again, if that were the case, the BCS themslves would not have stated 2003 was a split decision with LSU winning the coach's NC and USC, the AP". Many on here who were around then, remember that from bcs.org.
Why is Miles posing with the 2007 AP NC trophy? Is he claiming it, or is that a picture of him throwing it away?

The AP is pointless now. The only reason people still even look at the AP is because its been around for so long. But in this era, it's a meaningless poll. Everyone is after the BCS Championship, not the AP Championship.

I have always said the following aorder of desire and I think the vast vast majority would agree.
1. Coaches (BCS) and AP
2. Coaches only
3 AP only

No there wasn't, the AP can grant their own champion, much like Golf Digest grants their own champion.
The deal is the BCS took into account the final AP rankings, and LSU still won. The AP wanting to remove itself from BCS rankings was stupid, because no one cares about AP has become like golf digest now

The
incorrect. The BCS facored in the second to last rankings of the AP. The final rankings were after the bowl game. Coaches poll NC (which awards the BCS champion) is independent of the AP.
