For now but once we start playing better teams his totals will drop. Absolutely loving his ability to take charges, though. Nice to see this offense put up 100+ with only one offseason. Cannot wait to see next year w/ more talent and more cohesion on offense.

ETA: we could have put up 120 if we made our free throws-that is scary to think considering how short JJ's tenure is.

Yea I believe I said 7-8 points and 5-6 rebs per game going into SEC play. I didnt want to project out past that without seeing the team dynamics such as moving Hammink to 4 or moving Eddie to backup C with less minutes.

The offense was fun to watch last night. Its amazing some of the passes our guards make. The extra pass is always there and it has given our shooters some great opportunities to hit shots.

I was a little concerned with our play on a few in-bounds plays when NWSU was using the full-court press. It was nice to see them pass out of the press (I distinctly remember one play in which it took only two passes to go court-to-court and find a wide open Ludwig) Some memories began to resurface of TJ and how his teams always looked under-prepared to deal with the full-court press. Luckily last night was only a man to man press but I remember from the TJ era we struggled mightily against a good zone press team. Hopefully JJ will address that and have them more prepared.

Besides a few lazy inbounds passes and a couple late game brain farts, we did a good job against the Demon press. It was obvious they wanted to get the ball right back to the inbounder if there was defensive pressure who wasn't getting guarded after the inbounds. Thought we look good with the 3 guys who can all dribble very well. Even JOB3 looks capable of bringing it down, but Coleman is a mismatch in a press. He will be guarded by a 4 but he can dribble like a capable guard.

The concern is that anyone who watches film will figure this out and adjust accordingly. But I like JJ as a coach so far and I think he will put in some in-bounds plays to compensate.

That is how you get in trouble though, trying to dribble out of a full court press, especially if you know Coleman is going to do it. But again, not a negatiger, and i believe JJ will have them prepared.

I agree that you can't try to dribble out of a press, but when you get an open lane in a press, which happens a lot for forwards, you have to be able to dribble confidently and with control.

Fair enough. Next game we are pressed I will pay close attention to Coleman's ability to dribble in space. But I shudder at the thought of JOB or Ludwig dribbling if need be.

Coleman is a well rounded athlete. He has a very pretty shot from deep, good moves down low, and is skilled with the ball. I have been more than impressed with him than anyone this season. I feel like if one part of his game isn't working he could evolve throughout the game until he found a part of his game that was working.

He has been disappointing in his ability to hang on to the ball and make good passes but he has also taken 5 charges in three games. I remember at least one assist and one screen he set for Hickey to get one of his threes. If he can just cut down the turnovers, start hitting his free throws like he did last year, and get some rebounds he will be okay. I guarantee one thing, if everyone on the team hustled like Eddie we might win a couple of games we shouldn't

It's not that JOB doesn't have dribbling skills, he just tries to use it too much. Eddie should not put the ball on the floor.

Yes, but if everyone on the team had Eddie's talent we wouldn't win a single game. Ok... Maybe one. I'm about the biggest positiger ever for men's basketball, but Eddie doesn't need to be starting or logging serious time. He should simply be a bench contributor.

You may have noticed we're a little short on big men this year. Who would you play instead of Eddie? The way the fouls were going last night we needed every scholarship player we have got.

People have to get in touch with reality. Eddie and Del Pierro have to play some serious minutes. Do you seriously think that JOB won't get in foul trouble again in some future game? Do you think that Coleman can be an iron man and play a whole game without rest under Coach Jones uptempo style of play? Courtney has been out injured two out of the first four games.

Everyone is quick to jump on every thing Eddie does wrong but don't give him any credit for what he does right. He tied for most rebounds with Hickey and Coleman at 7. Took two charges, set screens for our three point shooters and is very effective on defense jumping out when they try to rub one of our guards off on a screen.

Agree he needs to improve and stop the turnovers and make his free throws.

I said he shouldn't be starting or logging serious time. I acknowledged that we need him to come off the bench. Maybe I shouldn't have said "serious time". From what he has shown, he has regressed from last year. Those few good things he does do, doesn't erase that he is a complete liability on the floor.

he has to start that way when O'Bryant needs to come off you aren't stuck with zero post scoring. The line up is fine.
