I think Mikie has a shot at coming back

That was the silver lining for the Rays or whoever drafting him and the kid (along with a ton of other high picks). Hopefully at least one that shouldn't have a chance in hell of showing up in Baton Rouge might.

based on what?
MLB draft signing deadline history.
Last year, I sat there and waited...waited...waited...
Until finally, Zach Lee went from prodigy to effin doucher for using the LSU name to up his signing bonus.
As for Ranaudo, I was just hoping he was not going to sign but, then again, a last second signing occured and all the hope was lost.
It would be nice to have Mikie back but the fact remains, he is going to sign by the deadline.

I really don't understand why people say this.
He got offered over 5 Million. Was he suppose to turn that down?

Meh. Our starting pitching was damn strong even without him. He's not missed.
I'm more worried about bringing in some bats.

May be Germans and take this for what it's worth, but Mikie is listed as in one of my classes for the Fall semester on Moodle. Now clearly he could sign today and drop the classes so it really doesn't mean much, but it's something that caught my attention

the Rays don't have Red Sox or LAD money.
they had 10 picks in the first 60 picks overall they have to sign.
they have signed 6 of those guys, and have 3 guys other than Mikie they still are looking to sign out of those 10.
2 of them are OF's that have signed already
Not saying it will happen, but chances are Mahtook isnt getting paid over his slot like Renaudo or Lee. He likely could come back, have another great season, and make just as much next year, if not more(if he gets drafted by the right team).

Yea earl BUT leverage!! I am so tired of hearing about leverage. Why do football players still have leverage after jr years but not baseball?
Posted on 8/15/11 at 12:59 pm to LSUIEGRAD13
its hard to have leverage when a small market team takes you. Especially when they have 10 picks in the first 60 overall. Mikie had to know from the get-go that he had little leverage despite being a JR
they'll offer whatever that slot is being paid, maybe negotiate slightly, but they wont lose sleep if he turns it down. Not only have they signed 2 OF that they picked early, they have a lot of young talent already in their farm system.
football is a different animal. You get 7 picks in a draft, you dont have a farm system. The draft is make or break for most teams.

Yankee very close to Signing Cave
basically there isn't much to talk about today unless the unthinkable happens and we get Mahtook or lose one of the 5 solid commitments

From what I have heard they have already offered him slot money and he turned it down.
