These kids all want to play for a top 5 program they all understand LSU is loaded. It could and probably will get even more competitive every year. This is not Les Miles, seniority doesn't count with Maineiri. The best will play no matter how loyal a weaker player is to the program. I talked to one of the guys who was left over from the Smoke Era and played for both coaches. He said Maineiri is all about winning he doesn't care about hurt feelings. Maineiri has demonstrated this. It will all play out. It is refreshing to have a coach who knows what he is doing on game day and how to use talent.

not overly thrilled about the weekend rotation, but we'll see

We didn't have 3 great weekend pitchers last year and we almost never do. We've always gotten by on a couple great pitchers and super-hitting. We don't need 3 great weekend guys, but we do need 1 guy to step up and be a solid weekend guy alongside Ross and Ranaudo. I think Bradshaw or Joey can give us that.
That being said I think we see more of a consistently (good) Austin Ross this year. More SEC Pitcher of the Week performances and less pulled by the 3rd-4th inning performances.

I was going to say we don't even have a dependable #2. I hope ross becomes more consistent

Agreed. I think the most important question this year is Austin Ross. If he produces then we have a serious shot at repeating. If he does not then I think it will be difficult to get out of the Super Regional.
Of course, someone I am not even counting on could step and make this post irrelevant.
I am not as concerned about the offesne as I am excited to see the young guys produce at last years freshmen develop.
Also, dont kill me or anything, but I just wanted to get some thoughts on Chad Jones for next year. Does anyone see him possibly starting a few games just to see how he does?
Here is to the repeat:

Thats the thing about college baseball, the post-season is set up so that you can make a deep run with essentially two great pitchers.
I like our team for 2010, but we could get in trouble in the Super Regionals with a bad draw of a pitching heavy team. Pitching wins championships. That being said, Ranaudo should be a horse and if Ross can step up, we have the back end of the bullpen covered.

For those of you who think moving mikie to right is a bad idea then consider this...
Has maneiri not proven yet that he makes great decisions with lineup changes?
Please dont question maneiri until he effs up which he has done the exact opposite of since taking over as hc.

What do you know about this kid Rittiner?
Posted on 12/28/09 at 2:53 pm to LSUTygerFan
Rittiner looks like a 4 year guy who won't be great but won't be terrible
could be a contributor in a year or two

Jones will beat out Watkins for RF.
Jones will be kept primarily in the bullpen more than likely

i think Matulis (spl?) will defiantly have an amazing year as a reliever. he just looks like he has it
Posted on 12/28/09 at 3:15 pm to mylsuhat
If we could have 2 strong lefties out of the bullpen in Matulis and Jones this team could very good pitching wise.
