This season feels like a let down from a talent standpoint. We have a decent team but in comparison to other teams we have fielded this team doesn't stack up talent wise.

Couldn't be more wrong

That would be an over achievement at this point in the season given the skill that we have to work with.

If LSU was 15-1 vs 12-3 having played OOC would you think this was a championship contender?

At the start of the 2000 season, that team kinda sucked. When they got to Omaha they steam rolled the competition.

Give it time.

We've had some great teams the last few years that I'm sure were more talented than this one. Unfortunately, they didn't play their best ball at the right time. The 2013 comes to mind.

omaha or bust

that's unrealistic for this team.

Omaha is a possibility...but I'd say it's not probable.

Great first thread OP .. seems to have gained a bit of traction.

I think we'll have to see how the first few SEC series shake out. Everyone knows Pulmonary will play around with the lineup (likely overly so) and we'll find a rhythm. With such a youthful team, only time will tell if they develop the maturity to sustain that rhythm.

Ultimately, I think two factors play most heavily into our success: 1) Lange and Poche setting a strong tone early in their starts and 2) ability of Krob to continue to get on base. Overcoming slow starts help confidence. Let's see if these three guys can get through the season without shatting their pants.

Good point. Baseball is a fickle game however experience and a deep bullpen eventually tell the tale

We have been graduating studs to the next level at pitcher but haven't been able to build a deep bullpen since we won the National championship

Same goals as I had before the season. Host a regional and make it to a Super. Omaha isn't out of the question if our bullpen can find some consistency, but I'm not expecting it.

This team has probably more athleticism and raw talent than any team at LSU since 2009. They are young yes but that does not mean they don't have talent.

We'll find out soon enough. Next couple series will find out actually how talented they are. I hope they can stay out of bogies

This is LSU baseball. We are one of only about 7-8 schools in the country who really care about baseball and of those 7-8 none care as much as we do, put more resources into it than we do and have the program that is dedicated to it as much as we do.

Given all that I expect to make the tournament every year and make a pretty serious run at Omaha and make it at least as much as not.

This is LSU baseball...we are as Kentucky is to hoops. Expectations will all be high and really, given that, they probably aren't all that unrealistic, unless it's win it all every year....that is.

I agree. Don't see anything wrong with expecting dominant baseball. Look at the football team, every one whom apologized for miles and damned anyone to expect greatness out of the team then look where it got us. We haven't been even close to competing for a national title. Whatever you expect out of the program is what you are going to get.

This is not true anymore. Florida, USCe, Ole Miss, State, Arky, A&M, and Vandy care about baseball just as much as LSU and that is just in the SEC. You go outside of that and majority of the ACC schools and Big 12 schools care and that is before you go to the West Coast.

Some good programs no doubt have enjoyed success sooner than we gave been lately but none of those programs are LSU. Top tier no doubt. LSU? No

Eh. You're right to dispute him to a point, but fan bases outside of the SEC aren't quite there yet, but a few. No one cares at UCLA for instance.

But the Mississippi schools, A&M, Arky, USCe, and Vandy are up there. Florida fans aren't that devoted. Neither is Kentucky or Missourri, Tenn, Goergia, Auburn, etc. no matter how good their teams are.

The thing about this team is we're gonna play small ball in Omaha once because we have to, so this team oddly has the best chance to win in addition to the great pitching
