He just said they hope Bugg will be given clearance by the doctors to resume throwing next week.

Asked about Freshman:

Loves Poche. Has every attribute except maybe 2-3 mph to be a "special" pitcher. Praises Dunn with working help him pitch at college level. Pretty good chance to be in weekend rotation by SEC. Not typical Freshman.

Parker Bugg has been disappointment because of mono. He was good in the fall. Might get clearance on Wednesday of next week. Upper 80s with great size and should develope into power pitcher. Will get meaningful innings.

Initially thought Robertson or Zardon would play 2B. But Ibarra stays and Hale is moved to 2B instead of taking 3B. Thinks Robertson or Zardon should earn that spot much like Hanover and Austin Nola who got their shot halfway through a season.

Dakota Dean isn't ready defensively. 4 lefty freshman hitters: Dakota, Fraley, Stone, DeHart

Fraley had poor fall. Comes back and looks great and exciting to watch. Has high hopes but may need some time. Will not be out there on opening day. Compares to Mahtook.

If they try and play like UCLA, they wouldn't get out of the SEC.

playing like UCLA wouldn't be exciting enough for the Box. Wouldn't be balanced.

He really hates bunting...

I've said this on here many times before, I think Mainieri has a knack for making good pitching decisions during tournaments. Going back to Notre Dame, and then LSU (we totally missed the tournament his first year), didn't Mainieri win something like 5 or 6 straight conference tournaments?

Well, that's cool. Just getting to Omaha is good enough for me.

Hunter Newman is out of the race for a starters spot because he's still not healthy. Throwing up to 120 ft. but no pitching at all yet. UGH! Could still get innings down the road.

Won his last 5 at Notre Dame (01-06) and his first 3 at LSU (08-10)

Freshman weekend starters (pitcher).

All about where they are in their development. Nola and Gausman were exceptions and he think Poche will be too.

The correct answer is:

Q: What would you change about LSU's 2013 trip to Omaha?

A: We wouldn't give up two unearned runs to UCLA, and the 3-5 and 6 hitters of our lineup wouldn't go hitless for two games.

But Mainieri chose not to throw his players under th bus.
